    Have you tried reseating your laptop battery? I have seen that resolve a variety of boot issues.
    Does the problem go away if the battery is charged?

    You can also install the Gnome Desktop Environment from the Software Center, and then enable it. It works fine on 12.04; I'm using it right now.

    [SOLVED] Post install - where did Ubuntu go?

    My computer (home-built) has 3 hard drives in it. These are separate drives, not partitions. All are SATA.
