Re: Wireless not working on Samsung N210

Although this is not a *solution* to the problem, this may be useful: I have now installed Lucid Lynx and the wireless works fine. (I had to install a driver, but this worked first time.)

    So it...

Re: Wireless not working on Samsung N210

Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem, too...

Did either of you eventually find a solution, or can anyone else offer any advice please?
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

Awesome, thank you so much!!! It works now - it started working after I uninstalled some recovery software that the computer came with (: (: (:

    Happy new year!
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

Okay, I did the purge/reinstall again, and this time it worked... not sure what I did wrong last time. However, I then rebooted my computer, and it went straight to Win7 again! ... Any thoughts,...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

Ok, I tried the corrected command and rebooted, but it's just gone straight into Win7 again.

I guess the next step is to try purging/reinstalling grub, but then I don't know what I can do about...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

    Thanks for your suggestions, all!

Holding the SHIFT key doesn't work. I followed the instructions at the link you provided (from the "trial" environment booted from USB), but unfortunately...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

    In case this helps:

    When I type this:

    sudo mount /dev/sda5 /mnt
    sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

No, I didn't make a swap partition... the netbook came with 4 partitions already allocated. I took over the "recovery" partition for Ubuntu but didn't want to get rid of too many of the original...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

Thanks Crazedpsyc - I appreciate your help! (:

In fact I found a thread on the forums from a few months ago with a similar problem, but the solution that worked there didn't work for me. Their...

  11. [ubuntu] Installed Ubuntu alongside Win7 but GRUB doesn't appear; just boots Win7

Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 onto my new netbook from a USB stick.
The laptop came with Win7 Starter, which I kept on a small partition.

Installation was apparently successful, but when I start...

    [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu on MacBookPro7,1

    Thanks very much; understood. ^^
I somehow had the mistaken impression that it fixed the hard drive too, so thanks for clarifying.

    [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu on MacBookPro7,1

Thanks very much for the advice - it all makes more sense now!

However, I'm still having problems... as you can tell, I'm pretty new to this, so I guess I'm not doing it right. I've succeeded at...

    [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu on MacBookPro7,1

Sorry, I don't understand how to use your file

It seem the applesmc file is meant to be installed on Linux? How do we install it on Linux if the Ubuntu CD isn't booting?

    Thanks very...

  17. [ubuntu] Re: How can I get my usb speakers to work?

This may not be the same issue as mine, but just in case it helps: When my earphones didn't work with Ubuntu, I found that it was because I had turned on the computer with them plugged in. The...

[ubuntu] Re: How do i edit the OS list on GRUB?

I believe that /boot/grub/menu.lst is the file corresponding to boot.ini. (You'll have to open it using sudo.)

If you've played with boot.ini before, you might well be able to figure out what you...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Want to delete Win7 from Ubuntu+XP+Win7 triple boot

    I've solved it!!! :D

In case it is useful for anyone (it's probably pretty much the same if the problem is Vista rather than Windows 7), here's what I did:

    (The steps previously mentioned in...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Want to delete Win7 from Ubuntu+XP+Win7 triple boot

    Here's some possibly useful info:

Using a partition manager, I get the list of partitions (in order) to be:

    4. Other (Ubuntu)

Thanks for the reply, coffeecat! :)
