I generally agree with your comments, except this part. MS doesn't "demand" anything. They offer a product for a price, if you don't agree with the price, you certainly don't have to buy it. ...
I was, kind of, rambling there. I didn't mean you specifically (even though I quoted you).
Just in general - I think that many of the XPvsOSXvsLinux comments/articles I read seem to be comparing...
Yea, OSX is pretty slick. It's better than XP except for two major issues. The thing is, they are issues that are deal breakers for a lot of people:
1. Nearly every piece of desktop software...
What I find strange is people who think they must choose a side, and if they choose gnu/linux, then they are required to bash MS at every opportunity.
There are a lot of reasons why people (me...
Most serif fonts (e.g. times new roman) do not look good on a computer display. They are more appropriate for printing. Sans serif fonts always look better on a monitor.
In my opinion, Verdana...
I live in Montreal, and MSN is the standard here, it seems. Not only do all my gaming friends use it, but my employer does too.
...and not only my employer, but all the other companies we do...
Agreed. I'm very surprised to see the default Firefox buttons. Sigh, I wonder if they simply overlooked it? Or was this on purpose?
I like the new colors. Took me a good 10 minutes to get used to it, though. Now I'm fully acclimated to it. ;)
Hehe :) But seriously, perhaps you should adjust the contrast? If your contrast (white level) is as high as you describe, then it's likely that your monitor is incorrectly setup.
Have a look...
I don't mean to be daft, but you do know you can change themes? Personally I care less about the default, since I know I'll change it anyway.
To be honest, I'm burned out on 95% of all themes...
Some folks need their glasses checked?
I love gnu/linux, and I love Ubuntu, but I'm not going to lie and pretend that Bitstream Vera Sans is better than Verdana and Tahoma. It's just...
I think it was generous of MS to (sort of) release these. Some of these fonts have no peer. They are widely regarded as simply the best fonts in the world for displaying text on a computer screen....
I think you mean Billionaire. Unless he have lost that much money already on Ubuntu? ;)
Fairly simple really. Have a look here:

That's the method I used.
This is how I feel too. So many crap distros out there, for once can we just have an uber tweaked, ass kicking, everything works RIGHT, distro? Without adding 987349873453 options that make it...
I'm not a huge fan of the official Ubuntu logo. To be honest some of the latest masks archibald did have a much higher cool factor.
I'm not a marketing expert, nor do I want to be. Every...
Why bother with all that? ;) It's in Hoary Universe! Search for "clearlook" in Synaptic.
I never could understand why they had green folder icons for default in gnome. Gnome added the Glider theme, but never made any new icons. Those green folders look retarded with nearly every theme...
Sounds about right. Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. :)
You know... One thing I've always wondered. Why doesn't the Human theme automatically select the Human icons as well? I must always go into the theme details and select them. No big deal really,...
Looks like we got the clearlooks theme everyone (including myself) thought should be the new default. Looks great!
A new version of the "chocolate" wallpaper, as well. :D
I agree completely with spark. Defaults do make a important first impression... and the Clearlooks Human theme is a rather dramatic improvement over the old one.
That, and the font autohinter...
I think you are mistaken. MS Sans Serif hasn't been used since win98? XP uses Tahoma for nearly everything. Window title bars are Trebuchet.
Everyone has their opinion of what looks good in...
