    Re: Web browsers??

The proper question is do you like chromium. If not then use what you do like, you do have plenty of choices.

    Re: Seagate disk read error/anomaly

You have backups so look around for deals on a new hard drive. When the old drive dies, put the new one in. For a ten year old drive, can probably get a bigger SSD for less than paid for the old...

    [xubuntu] Re: 4K question

Think it depends more on graphics driver. Would google your CPU with 4K and see if it supports it. Recent versions of Ubuntu should.

    Re: A pre-boot question

I don't think so. You can have a VPN and firewall installed on your router, depending on make of router or buy a VPN router. You can also have a VPN load on startup on Ubuntu and think Windows. ...

Have read some posts about I5 cpu giving problems with Ubuntu(can google). Don't need to buy Windows just to check hardware, they give a few months to try(also google for free Win 10 legal). Will...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Good alternative to videostream for chromecast

Question, by unticking/removing the google chrome line in software sources, will that prevent/disable chrome from updating and/or removing apps during future updates? I know it is bad to not update,...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Good alternative to videostream for chromecast

Don't know how videostream does it, but it does not seem to use much cpu. Have never heard my fans come on when using videostream. With plex fans went to maximum and was not even trying to convert...

  10. [ubuntu] Re: Good alternative to videostream for chromecast

  11. [ubuntu] Re: Good alternative to videostream for chromecast

Chrome does not seem to want to play videos from local, even mp4(will list it,not play). No android phone, but really would like a Ubuntu desktop answer. Don't think my TVs have DLNA, cheap RCA...
  12. [ubuntu] Good alternative to videostream for chromecast

Have been using videostream for a few years and find it works very well, pick a local video file and it plays on chromecast right away, does not seem to matter which video format. Chrome is going to...
  13. [SOLVED] Re: Can I use apt-fast for updating and installing packages?

From a security point it is not good to run a third party program with root control. For speeding up updates might be better to go into software and test for best mirror. As long as you don't have...

    Re: My Desktop went ubuntu

Think doing a simple [code] sudo update-grub [code] will place windows in grub and give you easier choice. Need both drives connected.
  15. Re: Are any packages/apps available only via snap?

For a time Chromium was snap only. I think they had to make a deb package also because of problems with snap chromium. Think most other packages were installed as snaps, but had debs also, so you...

Google won't give specs for that, but seeing it is that it seems old, it might not boot from USB. Have a toshiba A20 that will only boot from CD/DVD. Quite a few Linuxes made for old weak machines...
