Re: Windows 2000 End-of-Life: What to do?

Windows 2000 is my primary OS.

I'm not giving it up any time soon (end of life or no end of life).

Re: Osnews guys: we quit on apple

Wow, it's so weird seeing Thom over here in this forum! It's like 2 of my separate worlds have collided :)
  5. Re: List one small thing you would change about Ubuntu.

Implement proper single-click (rather than the pathetic half implemented lash-up that currently exists).

Poll: Re: What kind of audio format do you use?

    MP3 and WavPack.

My purchased MP3s are 320kbps. MP3s that I create myself are usually VBR 1.

    For lossless I use Wavpack.
  7. Re: Am I the only one that wonders why The All-American Rejects sing with a Brit acce

No weirder than most British people singing in an American accent.

However, having just listened to a few of their tracks on youtube, I can't say that they sound at all British to me.

    Re: HOWTO: Disable Ctrl-Alt-Backspace

So then surely you should disable it on your system, rather than it being forced onto the majority of users who have never had such a problem.

But as was said earlier; "what's done is done".
  10. Poll: Re: What Would You Do If Canonical Signed A PLA With Microsoft?

    Provided those options exist.

How do I single click to launch a program from the add / remove dialog after it's just been installed?
How do I single click to browse through a folder tree in a...
  11. Poll: Re: What Would You Do If Canonical Signed A PLA With Microsoft?

    YAY!!

I've been saying this for years (but not because of patents). Hence my ongoing frustration with this.

    Re: Audacious 2.0 Alpha2 Released

    Thank you!!!

I've been driven crazy by dependencies with Audacious. I could never get it to work.

I thought that running a deb would make things easier, but every deb I've ever seen for...

Re: Dual boot with two hard drives

In Ubuntu v9.04 the installer has FINALLY stopped trashing the MBR of other drives which you have not given it permission to write to (and then getting the device numbers wrong so that you are left...

Re: What is your boot time?

Well obviously bootchart does not include HW POST time, but it was still a full boot rather than a resume from suspend (as someone joked earlier).

POST takes an additional 11 seconds on my main...

Re: What is your boot time?

    7 seconds.

That's a complete cold boot, up to the full Gnome desktop.

  17. Re: Video: Why Desktop Linux Sucks

    That is so true.

Some people would rather attack those who point out Linux's shortcomings than actually accept the criticism and see it as an opportunity to improve matters.

Re: How does one live with an everchanging OS?

    I agree completely.

Not only do things sometimes get worse, but even when they improve, there are often incompatibilities with config files, so all your carefully tweaked settings from your...

    Re: Attach your boot-chart!

After my first boot chart here, I thought I'd try again but this time using Ubuntu 9.04 (standard Live CD install).

My boot time is now 7 seconds to full desktop (with GDM etc.)

Re: MicroSoft can't sue linux for using Mono!

    Indeed.

Although personally I'd love it if Microsoft sued Linux for breaching their double-click patents, because I absolutely hate double-clicking and I would be so happy to see it got rid of.
