Re: Have you upgraded to 20.04?

Clean install every two years with LTS version.
  3. [ubuntu] Re: External Monitor prompt flashing all the time

Have you tried to start your Ubuntu 20.04 laptop without the external monitor attached?

Then plug it in after logging in to Ubuntu.
  4. Re: Desktop icons remain hi-lighted/lit/on?

Have you tried to disable and then re-enable the extension?

    Possibly, reboot after disabling?

Just a guess, really, because I'm not a fan of Folders and Icons on the Desktop.
  5. Re: Desktop icons remain hi-lighted/lit/on?

The question probably isn't obscure but the answer may be..............

You haven't mentioned which flavour of Ubuntu you use and, depending on the version and desktop environment, there are...

Back Up is your first priority - nothing more, nothing less
  7. Re: Not detecting windows 7 in a triple booting process

Have you turned off Fast Start Up in both your Windows systems?

Have you backed up all your data?

Do you have Windows repair disks?

Do you have more than one disk on your PC?

    Do you have...
  8. Re: Not detecting windows 7 in a triple booting process

Before you proceed any further, are you familiar with the following:-

    Secure boot
    Fast Start Up (Windows setting)
UEFI mode or Legacy (BIOS) mode

    Please read this thoroughly first...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: How to restore Windows boot loader and remove grub

One of the best utilities for creating bootable usb devices is https://help.ubuntu.com/community/mkusb

However, as far as I know, there isn't one application to create UEFI, GPT and Bootable USB...
  10. [kubuntu] Re: Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse - Suspend Woes

The text description Logitech Inc Unifying Receiver is missing - perhaps a clue?

    Faulty receiver rather than mouse?

If you unplug the receiver, attach it again and run dmesg via the terminal,...
  11. Re: My Dual Boot Does Not Work To WinXP From Grub Menu, Help?

    @oldfred

I'm sure that some of the actual repair processes of boot-repair will only work if the utility is run in a live session.
I can't identify exactly which options but, in the dim and...

    Re: CTRL + ALT + F7 shortcut

Ubuntu used lightdm during the Unity years and then changed to gdm3 when gnome-shell became the default - 18.04 if I were to guess.

I suspect that the Ctrl Alt F1 > F7 changed at the same time.
  13. Re: My Dual Boot Does Not Work To WinXP From Grub Menu, Help?

Line 92 of https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/kG2ccgDWW6/ shows that the report was created in an installed system.

Is it not more usual to run the boot-repair utility in a live session?

    Does Xubuntu use lightdm?
  15. [kubuntu] Re: Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse - Suspend Woes

Yes, you could be right - Is there anything unusual about your PC that leads you to this possibility?

Now, just to pour more oil on troubled waters ;), I'll mention that Logitech Unifying...

    Re: CTRL + ALT + F7 shortcut

I don't have access to Bionic 18.04 but the OP mentioned 20.10.

Out of curiosity, are the keys the same for all the Ubuntu flavours (assuming the release is the same i.e. Ubuntu 20.10 & Kubuntu...

  18. Re: System sound stopped on ubuntu studio

You haven't been precise about which version you are using.

    Ubuntu Studio 20.04 uses XFCE
    Ubuntu Studio 20.10 uses Plasma

Settings will be in different places depending on the interface in use.

  21. [kubuntu] Re: Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse - Suspend Woes

Sometimes, when waking up the PC, I have to wiggle the mouse and hit the enter key a few times, but this seems a bit unscientific.

Regrettably, I have no more useful suggestions.
  22. [kubuntu] Re: Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse - Suspend Woes

Suspend to Ram or Suspend to Disk?

    Change battery in Mouse?
    Change USB port for receiver?

I've used a Logitech M185 for 4/5 years and it has never given a problem..........
  23. Re: Support needed for bricked login - "Oh no! Something went wrong" screen

Post no. 1 - You are using 20.04
Post no. 6 - You refer to 18.04 with a link to editing 18.04

Your quickest option to finish your delayed tasks is to backup your files, install 20.04, restore...
  24. Re: Support needed for bricked login - "Oh no! Something went wrong" screen

That is bizarre and very unusual.......

I think I had only changed dock (with dconf-editor)

Using dconf-editor to change the Dock doesn't sound quite right to me?
What did you want to do...
  25. Re: Support needed for bricked login - "Oh no! Something went wrong" screen

A Windows update destroyed your Ubuntu installation - I hope I have understood that correctly?

Secondly, after you have installed Ubuntu 20.04, it all works fine until you change a setting?
