Re: To deb or Snap or Flatpak?

Let's offer a bit of a correction about the "current deb version"...

1.2.2 = Debian oldoldstable. Not available in any supported release of Ubuntu.
1.3.1 = Debian oldstable and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS...
  2. Re: What happened to the Ubuntu community?

    Seems like Frustration + Misunderstanding.
A very old tale. Particularly easy to occur when everyone involved has never met.
  3. Re: Unattended upgrades doesn´t work on Ubuntu 22.04.3

If the Origin is "Docker", then the Origin is not "${distro_id}Docker"
  4. Re: Unattended upgrades doesn´t work on Ubuntu 22.04.3

See https://askubuntu.com/a/1286233/19626 for how to figure out the correct Origin and Section.

I wrote it back in 2020, and it's still the same.
  5. Re: Unattended upgrades doesn´t work on Ubuntu 22.04.3

Your Unattended Upgrades settings show the default setting: ONLY security upgrades from the Ubuntu repos and nothing else.

Your list of available upgrades does not seem to show any of those. That...

    Re: Update Snap Store ...?

That window is snap-store running. Snaps must be stopped to refresh.
Thus, Snap-store cannot update itself from the GUI.

Quit and wait a few hours (real Quit. Merely closing the window is not...

[ubuntu] Re: error when trying to install updates

    Hmmm.

The versions are appropriate. It's not an arch conflict. The control files don't have 'breaks' (which they seemingly should when both provide the same file).

I think we need a kernel pro...
  8. Re: Why are Snaps not downloaded in background when they become available?

It does exactly that in many circumstances.

Neither debs nor snaps check for updates at system restart unless a certain amount of time has passed since the last check. And they check at different...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Planning to create LAN with NAS for PLEX at home

If you have a router, then you already have a LAN.
Login to it and start looking at the settings.

The key setting is assigning consistent IP addresses to the media server (so you can find it) and...

[ubuntu] Re: New LTS, new FS?

Experimentation of this sort is rare during an LTS release.

It is more common during the non-LTS releases.

And is most likely to happen when community members pitch in. Lot of work to be done....

Re: I can't find Snap Store

On a stock install of 22.04 and newer, the Ubuntu Software Center application ("ubuntu-software" deb) was replaced by the Ubuntu Software application ("snap-store" snap).

    So maybe you didn't...
  12. Re: Unable to run software updates on my system

Why does your system have wrong-version 16.04 (xenial) repos active?

That's a characteristic of a systems with broken release-upgrades or strange haywired release-upgrades.
    In both cases, there...

    You found it.
  14. Re: Attempting clean install and get username reserved?

    No, it's not a leftover.

The packages wisely don't want myth to run as root. So installing myth creates a user. That user owns the database and content files.

In other words, you don't need to...
  15. [server] Re: python 2 and 3 installed what can be safely removed?

Ubuntu 20.04 shipped with Python 3.8.2 (deb package). Removing that version may destroy your system.
Everything else is optional (like Python 2.7)...unless you added it for a purpose.

    Your 'find'...

[SOLVED] Re: will OpenZFS ever be updated?

True. Several bugfixes have indeed been backported to older versions of zfs. You can tell by the package version string.

Patching is the typical behavior for Debian-type distros like Ubuntu....

[SOLVED] Re: will OpenZFS ever be updated?

If you are using a two-year-old release of Ubuntu, then seeing two-year-old packages in it seems reasonable.

For newer packages, look at newer releases of Ubuntu.

    Freeze-at-release (except...
  18. Re: Upgrade from Ubuntu server 16.04 to 18.04

Why bother? Ubuntu 18.04 is also past EOL. Then you must release-upgrade to 20.04.
Your system has not received security updates for almost three years. Not a good candidate for release-upgrade....
  19. Re: No initrd.img generated on update/upgrade

  20. Re: Please bump ZFS to 2.2.1!

Bugs should be reported to the bug tracker (whom we are not).
  21. Re: Enable ubuntu pro - how do I do it?

    "Need" is inaccurate.

Ubuntu Pro is an optional service that includes security patches for Universe software (Universe = Additional software you installed. Not part of a stock Ubuntu install.)

  23. [ubuntu] Re: Are there plans for UI/UX and/or branding changes for 24.04?

Mark Shuttleworth has repeatedly (and recently) referred to Ubuntu Desktop as the "Flagship" version.

Changes always happen. Consequences always ensue.
  24. [ubuntu] Re: Could someone explain why Ubuntu does not preload Snaps

    Thanks for your suggestion.
It was implemented already in snapd v 2.59, March 2023.

If you are using Ubuntu 23.04 or newer, you...
  25. Re: Removing packages marked "deinstall" ...

    It's usually safe...

...but it's a lousy way to reclaim storage capacity. Packages are generally very small. Many are smaller than 1MB. Teeny.

To be sure it's safe, test it:

    apt autoremove...
