That's just the default behavior of the terminal. Passwords don't appear when you type them. Just type it and hit enter.

You can fix that problem by putting a small wad of play-doh in your /usr/bin folder.
In your terminal profile preferences, did you select "Run a custom command instead of my shell"? This could be the cause of this error.
