Re: You know you're a geek when........

...when people try to change your Facebook status but can't figure out how to use your computer :p
Thank you, tty1 with fbterm (plus background), screen, apt-get upgrade, and ncmpcpp :D

Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

You've written "voff" somewhere in your conkyrc and it doesn't know what it means so it's ignoring it - you probably mean voffset? :)
  3. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

If you program it with ridiculous rounding errors, yes, it doesn't even need to be powerful :p
  4. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

Yeah, I was agreeing - the debate seems pointless, but there's something dragging us back to it :p
If it was something important, I wouldn't bother coming back :p

    I don't follow... you said...
  5. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

If it matters, there doesn't seem any point debating it :p

Yes, and you'll keep going as you try to count to it as the decimal points are infinite - if you try counting to pi, you'll count:
    1
    2...
  6. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

    Haha, good analogy :p
I was thinking of it being as possible as using inequalities with complex numbers :)
It is pretty ridiculous how it's still going on but at least it's making me (and I imagine...
  7. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

Like the Real Projective Line?: :D
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4c/Real_projective_line.svg

Problem being "division does not retain its original algebraic meaning in it"...

    Re: Linux Backdoor found?

Yeah, most interesting part of anything on Windows, to me, is that it's not on Windows - the person who said the quote tries turning it into a OS war and fails :p
  9. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

Pi, isn't 3.14 - you'll never get to it exactly, it's like counting to infinity, getting closer and closer but never quite getting there ;)

    That works.

That's just stupid and makes no sense......
  10. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

    Yes.
No. Just because they aren't certain positions on the real line doesn't mean they're "in the same category" - you can never count to pi, is that also part of the same set?

    I'm doing Complex...
  11. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

    There is...

So the number line's actually a circle? :p
  12. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

Well, that's my point, there's maths throughout nature - probably more than we'll ever know - so it's not just an idea we've invented...

Yes, but you're still talking about a number line other...
  13. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

I don't agree that humans invented the idea of counting - why else does, for example, the golden ratio appear in so many natural things? I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that maths is "nature's...

Re: Turn Off Encrypted Home Folder?

OK, cool, thanks for the info - I've installed another distro over the top since then and can't actually check but it's interesting nevertheless :)
  15. Re: great comparison between iOS, Android and WebOS

Google supports their products... it's the manufacturers who aren't... I'm quite happy with my HTC Desire, even though it's on 2.1 and 2.2's out - I bought the phone how I expect to use it, not in...
  16. Re: great comparison between iOS, Android and WebOS

I didn't like the article... first of all, Android is good at multitasking and people don't need task killers - just because they're available doesn't mean people need to use them.
    Secondly, nobody...
  17. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

They'd be working in a different number system in which the division algorithm is not defined so, yes, practically they'd see it in a different view but the maths on the real line would still be the...
  18. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

But the number "1" represents a conceptual idea, that idea can also be applied to having "one apple" - that's not man who's done that, it just is. In the same way, division by zero just isn't - it...

Re: USA Vs. England tomorrow. Woohoo! Go USA!

Football bores me, but I'll still support England in this :)
    Yeah, a real sport! :D

We are, we really are - fear us, America!
  20. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

No, discovered means it already existed, made up would be to create something new :)

I found it funny, till I realised that 0/1=0 which means you don't get any either :p
    It would actually be...
  21. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

No, imaginary numbers were discovered, not made up - and the reciprocal of zero doesn't exist so it can't be discovered ;)

Re: You know you're a geek when........

    What's that?

Well, that would make sense - it's less to remember :p

You know you're a geek when you're drunk at 5 in the morning and you still feel the need to put as your...
  23. Re: Do you think we'll ever have a computer powerful enough to divide by 0?

This thread makes me sad :(
All the maths to prove that infinity is not a number, or solution to a equation, and division by zero is not just hard to do, it's impossible. If you can't get you're...

Re: "I use Firefox instead of Linux"

    Couldn't agree more :)
And, for people arguing you need to take a test to drive, that's for safety - it's very unlikely that you crash your computer with the potential to kill yourself and/or others...
