Re: Xubuntu Jaunty - not so light anymore

Funny you should say that, because i read this very thing somewhere just the other day (Can't remember where now though). Something to do with a Puppy fork using Ubuntu as the base (& i guess because...

Re: Xubuntu Jaunty - not so light anymore

Totally agree!! I've got 2gb on my laptop, and Firefox alone can consume VAST amounts of Ram, especially when you have a few extensions & loads of tabs!

Also, as there are many things that i...
  6. Re: Starforce working on developing protection for Linux

I bought "Half Life 2 - Orange Box", installed it, and did the whole Steam Account thing...... & i have to say it's absolutely "AWFUL!!" (Steam that is, NOT HL2!) :)

    It made the game really...

    [ubuntu] Re: Upgrading from 8.10

It's just a guess, but i would imagine that it's not available yet because they've only just released the RC version. As soon as the final release is available, you may find that it becomes available...

[ubuntu] Re: Mounting HFS+ hard drives with 8.10

Don't know if it's any use at all, but i've just had an iMac apart for a friend who needed the data retrieved from the HD (iMac's not working anymore). I attached it to the CDROM IDE cable of my...
  9. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

LOL!! Excellent. LXDE saves another machine! :)

I'm not 100% sure, but i think they'll be fine. I've been running LXDE (in several different forms) for a while now, and no problems so far...
  10. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

That's good to know. For some reason, i always seem to forget that it's the .desktop files that are key here. :) Thanks firmit.

Looking forward to seeing the howto. :) I've installed LXDE...

    Re: HOWTO: Graphical IP Blocker

I've just installed this app on Hardy (Xubuntu) & it's working fine. Easier to get going than MoBlock for me, and i really like the interface. Is it still being developed? :)
  12. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

Now that i've finally got it working (Thanks to some of your conky settings) i'm finding the same thing. It's no great problem as i very rarely use that feature, but it would be nice to be able to...
  13. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

Hi firmit, thanks for the reply.

Hmmm, it seems that whenever i enable that feature from within the prefs dialog in pcmanfm, conky is no longer visible. When i "disable" it conky comes back....???...
  14. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

Well, that's quite a reduction eh? :) I'm currently using it with an antiX base on a P3 and it flies just as fast as fluxbox/openbox ever does, but it's always good to see some figures eh? BTW, how...
  15. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

It seems that both LXDE as a suite & PCmanFM are being developed quite a lot & changing regularly, which is great, but can cause problems such as you're experiencing.

Here's a few links that may...
  16. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

I don't have figures, but from using it on several different machines for the last month or 2, quite a lot. Smaller footprint, a bit like XFCE but a lot lighter than that even. It's worth a go,...

[ubuntu] Re: Mount Gmail in Ubuntu

+1 for gspace, it's a great FF addon. Works well, but i'm having a problem keeping the email account details, and have to re-input them everytime i restart the browser. Apart from that, it works fine.

Re: List your TOP FIVE Firefox extensions!

Is anyone using gspace at all? Great idea, but i keep on losing all of my email details everytime i re-start Iceweasel.

Re: Cool applications you use that others might not know of

Try either "Transmission" or "Deluge" and see how you get on with them. They may not be quite what you're after at the moment (especially if you're coming from Windows fairly recently) but they're...

  22. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

If you're running LXDE on top of Xubuntu base (Effectively using LXDE instead of XFCE) then your wireless should be picked up automatically, the same as it was in Xubuntu using XFCE?

  23. Re: LXDE 0.3 - Lightwght and Fast Desktop Environment (apt repo is provided)

Anyone know if this will run on a 64bit system? I know OpenBox works on 64 bit, but not sure about this. Really great DE though, and certainly is fast on my Linux Mint install. :)
  24. Re: How to: Xubuntu - Thunar Native Windows Network Browsing

This tutorial certainly helped me deal with a lot of network issues with Xubuntu. :) However, i have found since, that it's much easier (& not very resource heavy either) to just install either...
  25. Re: How to: Xubuntu - Thunar Native Windows Network Browsing

This is a great how to & i have used it successfully on several Xubuntu installs.... HOWEVER!...... i have come to the conclusion that it's just as easy (EASIER, in fact) to install "Konqueror"...
