    [xubuntu] Re: Notifications disappear instantly.

Muting the sound shows the notification correctly for the specified number of seconds (set back to the default of 10).

    [xubuntu] Notifications disappear instantly.

Xubuntu 13.04, 64 bit, clean install.

When unmounting an external hard disk, a notification pops up, but I can't see what it says because it disappears a split second after appearing.

  4. [xubuntu] Re: CD "Boot from first hard disk" works, can't boot to HD without CD.

I remember only 3 partitions made with the guided partitioning of the entire disk: #2 being ext4, and #3 being swap. Maybe I'll try reinstalling Wednesday with manual partitioning, after looking up...
  5. [xubuntu] Re: CD "Boot from first hard disk" works, can't boot to HD without CD.

  6. [xubuntu] Re: CD "Boot from first hard disk" works, can't boot to HD without CD.

I only have the 1 hard drive in: the Western Digital wd30ezrx. I actually only have 1 SATA data cable - I wanted to get another to later put my old hard drive in to copy from it rather than copy from...
  7. [xubuntu] CD "Boot from first hard disk" works, can't boot to HD without CD.

Just did a clean install of Xubuntu 12.04 amd64 on a new Western Digital wd30ezrx 3TB hard disk - no errors during install. The mainboard is an Intel dq35mp (dq35mpe) (which ran Ubuntu 10.04.4 with...

[ubuntu] Re: Help for office machine

I find Xubuntu http://www.xubuntu.org/ 11.10 to work almost perfectly for me - it simply lets me get my work done. It has good usability because it's configurable: it gives me control over what I can...
  9. [other] Re: lubuntu-desktop install error in Ubuntu 10.04

Thanks. I tried to install chromium-browser 15 from Ubuntu software center, and got the same error - which made sense after I got the error. Lubuntu 10.04 doesn't seem to be an LTS as stated at...
  10. [other] lubuntu-desktop install error in Ubuntu 10.04

    Using Ubuntu 10.04.3 amd64 with Xfce 4.6.1.

When trying to install lubuntu-desktop 0.13 from Ubuntu software center with the Ubuntu 10.04 CD in, I've been getting

  11. [ubuntu] Re: CUPS, add new printer: keeps asking username and password.

The PC is old and can barely handle 6.06 LTS. My new PC only has USB ports so no where to plug in the printer.

Anyone know how to get past the username and password dialog?
  12. [ubuntu] CUPS, add new printer: keeps asking username and password.

    Old Ubuntu 6.06 LTS setup.

Added an HP LaserJet 5L printer.

Under System, Administration there isn't a Printers.

Saw at CUPSDocumentation to go to http://localhost:631/admin. From there I...
