Re: August 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

So I got bored of KDE. I think it's a beautiful system, but I'm so used to Gnome that I had to switch back...plus I think this looks amazing; I'm sticking with this gtk theme for a while!

Re: August 2009 Screenshot Thread (thumbnails only)

Thanks, I like it this way. It's actually the longest I've stuck with a desktop design in a while.

Re: Amazon has DRM free music store?

This looks nice. I may use it for downloading mainstream music, since I use eMusic and Magnatune for everything else.

I also like the first graphic, which truly explains that the music is...

That game looks awesome. I have a small (but growing) collection of crazy board games. Must find this one for my collection!

Does anyone remember this game? (picture below)

Re: The Beginner Team has started

Hi, just read this post. There are a lot of websites devoted to command line operations, but I've found it's more useful to go to the library and get a linux (preferably an ubuntu-specific) book that...

Re: Share Your Computer Virus stories!

I don't remember the name of the virus or how it got on the computer, but one dreary day in 2000, I started up my Windows 98 computer and got a black DOS-prompt screen with a bunch of scrolling text...

    Re: to Mark Shuttleworth

I purchased a new PC recently, it has a super fast DVD-Rom and 2 gb ram, and the live CD does run significantly slower than my actual install. And all of my hardware runs excellently in linux. I...

    Re: to Mark Shuttleworth

Hmmm...I have read the Bug #1 site before, but haven't read that closely. Seems to be a possible strategy, in theory or in practice?

    Re: to Mark Shuttleworth

I have a few problems with this method.

1.) If something was to go wrong, they'd have you on camera and know that you hijacked one of their display computers.

    2.) The liveCD runs significantly...

    Re: to Mark Shuttleworth

I agree, even though I doubt Mark Shuttleworth is seeking out Ubuntu pre-installed in shops, he certainly could use things like the Idea Storm to negotiate before the idea storm results came through....

Oh God I wouldn't dare reinstall at this point! The thought scares me....

I just play it safe, and when I "screw up" I just do what I can to fix it.

Re: Do college students use Linux?

I would consider myself an "average Joe user" and I use Ubuntu for all of my classwork. But I'm just an English major :) I don't do anything with IT. I just use Ubuntu because I like it, and Windows...

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

Yeah, the submenus thing does bother me. I like the way a default GNOME setup has the three divided menus up top. KDE's menus are too cluttered and confusing. It reminds me of the clutter of XP's...
  24. Re: September 2007 Desktops (Safe for work ONLY) - Please include theme details.

I changed my desktop setup again, this time going for a "fall" theme, and a better looking ubuntu setup.

    Using:
    Compiz-Fusion
    AWN
Emerald theme: Feisty New Human (modified colors, found on...

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

I've used both KDE and GNOME and I must say that GNOME is a much better experience. I believe strongly in simplicity. GNOME can do pretty much everything that KDE can do if you're determined enough...
