Hi,
Where are the XDG env. variables set on [K]Ubuntu 14.04? I have been rolling my own Project Neon5 replacement, installing Qt 5.6 and KF5 into a separate prefix (/opt/local). I've been using a...
That's a bit TMI ...
I don't particularly mind putting the machine back in UEFI mode in order to install and/or boot MS Windows, esp. if that allows to keep Grub and the "Windows bootloader"...
Hi,
I found an old thread outlining how to do a clean Win7 install alongside existing Linux installation(s). Basically, make sure the target partition is already in NTFS, and that you're in...
Hi,
The question is in the title: is there any ETA on (or hope for) backports of XOrg and Mesa from 16.04 to 14.04, so that this LTS version gets better support for the latest hardware? What's the...
It's slowly getting to a point where most of the features from KDE4 I've been missing are back in, but it still evolves way too quickly to my taste. There's a reason I use LTS releases: I value...
Oh, I'm not saying it is. And I'd be happy is Ubuntu or someone provided lts-xenial XOrg and Mesa packages, provided those are indeed newer than the lts-wily versions.
Anyway, it's not really an...
This is not the same 14.04 as the one shipped originally. It uses a backported XOrg and Mesa from "Wily", and a very recent kernel. It works fine on even more recent hardware.
I need to do some more testing, but it seems I got a lemon. The system went to sleep when I was occupied elsewhere, and now it appears to get stuck somewhere in the POST, before the screen even...
Hi,
I want to stick to my KDE4 desktop a while longer, and 14.04 while I'm at it, but also just got a new "netbook" built around an Intel Celeron N3150 (not even a Broadcom WiFi chipset, yay! :))....
Hi,
Edit: seems I'm not the only one with this kind of issue:
I'm running KUbuntu 14.04 LTS, up-to-date but since quite a while I use a home-built 3.14 kernel (3.14.59 with ConKolivas patches)....
Wow, lots of links and info - I'll process all that in due time (for some silly reason I don't have access to this, my wife's, laptop when she's home ;)).
Good suggestion to create a new thread, too.
Curious I never saw an alert for that latest reply.
Either way, the trigger was pulled on a bigger beast. Still an HP, a Pavillon W10 17" with a 6th gen i3 @2.3Ghz, 6Gb of RAM, and an AMD R7 GPU...
I'm having issues with the login process when I don't come in "through the main door" but instead follow a link from a reply alert email after having restarted my browser.
In that case, none of...
[OT: does this forum support reopening an "old" link in a restarted browser session, log in as a result of clicking "reply", and then taking me back to this post rather than to the forum list page?!]...
Ah, of course, there's the GPT issue too. As far as that's concerned, any GPT-partitioned drives I have have been set up such that the BIOS PCs of the house can boot Linux off them. IIUC that means...
Hi,
My wife's venerable HP G62 laptop just died (no more display, not even over the VGA port) at the worst possible time, so we're looking at replacing it ASAP. One potential candidate is the ASUS...
I'm a bit late to the discussion, but I regret the decision to drop the Neon5 project that allowed installing KF5 in its own subtree. I don't think it would have been an inhumane effort to keep the...
Hmmm, that still doesn't explain why 3.14 and 3.15 were skipped for 14.04, but anyway. What I mostly wanted to know if it was because of known issues...
Because ntfs-3g is a userland driver. UFSD is a professional product, has better support for the NTFS feature set from what I understand, and as I said, it offers near-native speed (= RW speeds...
Hi,
I'm running KUbuntu 14.04LTS, and use Paragon Software's UFSD driver for read/write access to NTFS volumes at (near) native speed.
That works wonderfully well, but they support only up to the...
hmm, yes, it's probably not impossible. The question does remain however why the system would chime an alert when we disconnect the charger manually, and not when the power is cut because of another...
Yeah, I have been thinking about that too, but that would mean the battery starts charging as soon as the system gets suspended. And gets enough juice to support a long enough playback duration after...
Hello,
I'm maintaining Kubuntu 14.04LTS on my gf's HP G62 laptop, an older model with an AMD P320 CPU and RV710 GPU. Before moving to Kubuntu I used the proprietary fglx driver with that GPU, and...
Well, enabling audio and connecting HDMI makes the system unstable and prone to freezes which can only be resolved with a power-cycle :(
It may have to do with the fact that I use Paragon's ufsd...
