Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Firefox 36.0 is unable to show some of the Unicode symbols.
For example 1F422 which is the emoji for a turtle. http://www.iemoji.com/view/emoji/666/nature/turtle
I ran the Common Ports test at https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2
and FTP and SSH ports shows as Closed but not Stealth.
Anything I can do in Ubuntu to fix this?
I may be taking a temporary job out-of-state.
If I stay at a hotel with public wifi, would the best option for me to get a VPN account even though I am using Linux?
No, there isn't a /dev/sda3.
Not sure what happened to it.
The extended partition appears to be /dev/sda4.
I had followed a tutorial for triple-booting XP, Win7, and Ubuntu.
I guess there...
My hard drive originally had partitions for XP, Win7, and Ubuntu 12.04.
XP was /dev/sda1
Win7 was /dev/sda2
Ubuntu was /dev/sda5
swap was /dev/sda6
Can someone explain to me why there isn't...
I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed in a triple boot with Windows XP and Windows 7 on a Dell M6300 mobile workstation aka laptop.
It has worked fine for over a year.

Yes, this is an old laptop, so I am going to keep the default video driver. :)
In that case, I have no idea.
I use Windows XP for my very simple DVD authoring and burning needs.

Sometimes it is the blank media that you are using.
There is only Ubuntu on this laptop.
I don't even get the Grub screen to try any fixes.
It just boots straight into Ubuntu, and then I hear the drumroll.
How do I fix this problem?

That worked fine.
But now after one of...
Post by Maximus_ARNP works beautifully for Ubuntu 12.04 with wired connection.
With 12.04 I did not have to install any drivers.
I deleted the external hard drive's entry from /etc/fstab file.
Ubuntu was wanting to automount it at boot.
I have some data files on an external hard drive.
I just did a clean install of 12.04.
I noticed this morning that if I don't have the external hard drive connected, Ubuntu won't boot.
I don't want to host a website on this server; I just want to use it to share files across the various PCs in my own network.
I currently have a cable modem connected to a router by Ethernet cable.
And I have powerline Ethernet devices so that other PCs throughout the home connects to the internet through that router.
Happened again to me this morning.
I don't have Newsfox.
It is quite annoying.
It happens when clicking any link not just bookmarks toolbar.

I went to Applications Menu -> Settings -> Desktop, but there wasn't an option for either volumes or partitions.
Looks like it isn't available in xfce.
Is there a way to have the icon for the XP partition show up on the desktop?
The partition is mounted.
