Could you please share with the community how you solved the problem? I personally would be very grateful. Thank you!
Hello all,
Today, I upgraded my perfectly working desktop from 8.04 to 8.10. I have a Nvidia GeForce 6100. After rebooting and after the boot messages run through, I am presented a blank screen. I...
OK, as stated, I don't know whether this works, but you could try the following: open your xorg.conf, go to line 97 and change the following section...
Section "Screen"

You may want to have a look at this page: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_7.10_on_a_ThinkPad_T43 - it's for Ubuntu 7.10 but I guess it won't be very much different for 8.04.

I just did that but it did not help.
Not as far as I can see, except for $LIBGL_DRIVERS which is "/usr/lib/dri"
Thanks a lot for this thread and your effort! I hope I'm not being inpolite by pasting my problem here, but since I upgraded my laptop from Gutsy to Hardy I've been desperately trying to get Compiz...
sorry 'bout the bump - but does anybody have any idea about this?
Thanks for your reply! I know I could do that but I certainly don't want compiz to be running as root! And after using it like that for a couple of hours now, it doesn't "feel" all that good to me -...
So i'm one of the (I guess) many, many fellows who, once again, after upgrading Ubuntu, is left with the joyful task of figuring out how to get Compiz working again while it worked like a charm...
