You should be able to boot from the liveCD and use the partition editor from there.
Oh, I didn't understand what your problem was, I thought it wasn't clearing your screen.
what is the output of
echo $TERM
You can edit /etc/sudoers with a line as follows:
user ALL=NOPASSWD: /path/command
that will allow you to run sudo without having to enter a password, then you can just create a launcher...
have you tried command
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
What are the permissions on
/home/vineet/.config/menus/applications.menu
Sorry, i miss-read your post, I saw ntfs and jumped straight in.
Have you tried
sudo chown -iR userID:groupID /(filesystem)/
try
sudo umount /dev/dvd

if that doesn't work you can use fuser to kill any process using the drive
sudo fuser -km /dev/dvd
you will need to boot from the liveCD, then run
sudo fsck /dev/sda1 (or what ever partition your install in on).
Should be
/dev/sda1 /data/music ntfs-3g defaults,uid=n,gid=n 0 0
for ntfs
Lost+found is used to keep corrupt files from the filesystem. If you run fsck on the filesystem it should sort it out. You will need to umount the filesystem to run fsck.

Is there an entry for openoffice in either /etc/init.d/ or /etc/rc2.d/?
Click show hidden files in the "view" menu
Run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
this should give you the higher resolution options again.
Sounds like you have an issue with motherboard. Check your PC/motherboard manufacturer's website for description on what the beeps mean.
you can mount the partition by editing /etc/fstab and adding a line similar to
/dev/sda2 /home/(yourname)/mountpoint ext3 defaults 0 0
if partition is ntfs add line
