Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Not sure a kernel upgrade would cause boot issues because of the efi situation of the x205ta, that's more of a grub(-efi) affair. But of course kernel upgrades can have other unwanted consequences...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

I stopped building my kernels a couple of years ago because they don't provide anything the mainline kernel doesn't already provide (anymore). So that link you used has been dead for a while. Please...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

I haven't used my x205ta in a while, but it seems there is a regression in newer kernels. I currently have arch linux installed (btw) and my LTS kernel (5.10) has sound, but the default kernel...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Hmm seems like the folks at canonical recently changed the way the iso is built; the efi.img file that was normally inside the iso rootfs (which my script looks for and uses), is now baked into the...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

    No problem!:)
That output is no problem. That's the 'less than subtle' way of my script cleaning up after itself; it tries to unmount temporary directories, but apparently nothing is mounted there...

You might indeed run into unforeseen issues while running my script in a VM. if you only have a non-linux computer available, maybe try to boot a ubuntu live-usb on it, and try to run the...

    @guitarjerry
I'm not really clear on what your current situation is, but if it's only a live usb that can connect to wifi you're after: that's not really a big deal anymore. I'd suggest you try out...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Glad I could help! The grub thing might be an Arch Linux feature:

Apparently you can press esc during startup to show the...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

I got the same error message when I tried to install manjaro just now. It seems to be a shortcoming in the calamares installer manjaro uses (lots of linux installers seem to not be able to cope with...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

You shouldn't try to extract it. Write the iso to a usb with an image writer (dd, rufus, Win32 Disk Imager or something like that) like you would normally do with any linux iso.

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Looks like your output path is botched (I assume /home/josh/Downloads/temp/x205ta-/home/josh/Downloads/temp/ is not an existing path).

I've updated my script to include your isohdpfx.bin location,...

This indeed doesn't sound good (especially since windows also can't recognize the chip). The chip your system reports doesn't seem to exist, something (some hardware firmware?) might be...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Hmmm this message means my script can't find isohdpfx.bin, which it needs to make a bootable usb. The location of isohdpfx.bin depends on your host system (and its version of syslinux). The script...

    Thanks for the feedback @khm25 & @Yochanan !

@joshua123456 I'd not use my kernel anymore, it's old. When I tried out the isos I created with my new script, audio just worked out of the box (you...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Hi people! I don't know how many people are still relying on the isos/kernels I host (the server logs show there are a few of you left), but I wanted to let you know I'll be upgrading my server soon,...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

@joshua123456 Hmm, looks like a config issue then, since otherwise anyone without a micro hdmi (like myself) should experience no audio on boot. Maybe try standard 'audio doesn't work' debugging...

@joshua123456 Great!, thanks for the confirmation.

@diegoandre Yup, that's the issue I was experiencing a while ago. Since Ubuntu 18.04 has an older version (11) of pulseaudio I guess the bug was...

Re: Asus X205TA hardware support in Ubuntu

Regarding audio, probably /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5645/HiFi.conf got updated (it is provided by the package libasound2-data). You can replace it with a version from my github:
