2013 user survey for video editors

    Hi everybody,

It's been a long time! I'm not sure if this is the right forum section for this, but I would like to invite you to to let Pitivi developers know what matters the most to you when it...

[kubuntu] Re: Pitivi failed to render - ffenc_dvvideo0

Hi, don't use the ffmpeg DV encoder, it won't work. That plugin is broken, there's nothing pitivi can do about it, you should probably report a bug in gstreamer.

On the pitivi website (or bundled with the application since recent releases): http://pitivi.org/manual

And yes, you really want to update your pitivi version to 0.15 at least. Not sure about it...

[ubuntu] Re: Where can I get Pitivi Plugins?

Along the way they figured out that it was better to wait for the GES port to actually add the titles. Effects and transformation are already in, but titles will have to wait for this spring...

[ubuntu] Re: Where can I get Pitivi Plugins?

Effects are available in the upcoming pitivi release, which should be out in only a few days.

If you have frei0r and libvisual and other libraries like that installed, pitivi has all the effects...

Pitivi and the Summer of Code 2011

PiTiVi is looking for participants for this summer of code: http://jeff.ecchi.ca/blog/2011/03/22/cool-video-editor-seeks-ingenious-students-pitivi-and-the-summer-of-code/

    If you're a student...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: What's a good video editor (similar to PiTiVi) that's stable and reliable?

If you haven't done so already, you should report bugs in pitivi. It typically doesn't crash for me (but then I've come to know how to work around some quirks and I help with testing the development...

    [ubuntu] Re: Pitivi in Maverick

From what I can see in your screenshot, you have not selected the clips in the timeline. You need to do that (by clicking it) first.

Refer to the pitivi user manual for further information on how...

    [ubuntu] Re: Pitivi rendering problems

Developers don't read forums. What you are seeing is a bug and you should file bug reports instead of posting on forums, so that your issue can be investigated properly.

The same settings as uploading to youtube will probably work for facebook: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+faq/1417

    [ubuntu] Re: Video editing software

Select the clip, unlink (or ungroup?), then the audio is separated from the video and you can replace it by something else.

See also the user manual on pitivi's website, it's pretty good.

[ubuntu] Re: PiTiVi will not render

Go in the Help menu in pitivi, there is a bug reporting option to report it in Ubuntu.

If/once your bug report is complete and can be reproduced, it can then be filed upstream at bugzilla.gnome.org

[ubuntu] Re: PiTiVi will not render

File a bug report with the exact steps to reproduce the problem and any output that may appear if you run it from a terminal window.

Oh and if you want someone else to render it, you need to...

    Re: pitivi is GARBAGE

File new bug reports with proper instructions on how to reproduce the problem and debug logs. Whining in the forums does not help anybody and developers don't read forums.

[ubuntu] Re: Where can I get Pitivi Plugins?

Could you file a bug report instead? (reminder: devs don't read forums. They read what's on bugzilla. I read what's on launchpad and forward it to bugzilla if I can reproduce it)

    Your description...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Pitive not recognizing flip video or jpeg files

I'm thinking you're confusing Open and Import.

If not, then make sure that you're using the latest version (currently 0.13.5), that you have all the required gstreamer plugins installed, and if...

[ubuntu] Re: Importing PNG in Pitivi

Bad answer. Pitivi supports PNG, JPEG, JPEG2000, PNM, SVG, etc. What you encountered was a bug. In those cases, report the bugs on the official bug tracker, not on the forum. Devs don't look at the...

[ubuntu] Re: Where can I get Pitivi Plugins?

Look at it the other way: other projects don't publicly, overtly advertise their weaknesses and provide an easy, concise list of features that new contributors can work on to learn the codebase. It's...

Why is that a disappointing link? It's there to be motivating, encouraging, and to instill passion on new and potential contributors! (and so far, it does seem to work a bit).

Have you tried the gstreamer dev PPA in combination with pitivi git? There's also a PPA for it: http://rowinggolfer.blogspot.com/2010/02/pitivi.html

Did you use still images in that timeline?...

[ubuntu] Re: VIDEO EDITING in Gnu/Linux

This is probably the "rotate" effect described in http://cinelerra.org/docs/split_manual_en/cinelerra_cv_manual_en_14.html

Otherwise, I don't know, I don't have the patience to use cinelerra :)

[ubuntu] Re: VIDEO EDITING in Gnu/Linux

I think you want mkv as the container format if you prefer to embed subtitles dynamically/cleanly, but I'm not sure which app will do the job for you, perhaps try with avidemux or handbrake.

    If...

[ubuntu] Re: Where can I get Pitivi Plugins?

Me neither. I am worried of it being included in ubuntu due to the potential backlash if they don't have enough time to implement transitions and effects. Ubuntu's release schedule is very tight and...
