does you laptop only have a tv-out or does it hav a vga port aswell?
you can connect you desktop monitor to to vga port (if the monitor uses vga)
EDIT: thats if the vga port still works
what im trying to do is install ubuntu on to an external hard drive, partition it and make it work.
