    Then you are booting from the external drive.
    Part of grub is in the internal drive, but rest is on external.
    So without external drive you only get grub> as it cannot find the external drive.

    Then in grub menu press e for edit and add nomodeset to linux line. I normally replace quiet splash, so then you also see boot process.

    Ignore all errors on sdb, your flash drive. As a hybrid DVD/flash drive it does not have standard partitions, so shows errors.
