Hey folks - I'm trying to reset the password that Evolution prompts you for when working with certs. Specifically, the "Enter the password for 'NSS User Private Key and Certificate Services'"...

Re: How to install Adobe Air in Ubuntu 8.04 [64-bit]

I've followed all the steps listed here, and have performed each task. I'm still having no luck. I also followed the instructions on Adobe's web site. Nothing.

I did a complete uninstall, and...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing Ubunti on a Dell poweredge 700

I agree with Ryadt - try the alternate CD.

When I've had trouble installing, the alternate CD has generally worked for me. If it didn't, the problem was typically hardware related.

    [ubuntu] Re: Updates wont install

Why couldn't he boot to an Ubuntu live CD, copy that file to a USB drive, reboot to the OS, and copy the file from the USB file over the existing screwed up file?

No it's not perfect, but if it...

[ubuntu] Re: Running Yahoo in Wine ??

My wife uses the voice chat function of Yahoo Messenger quite a bit for the classes she's taking. Rather than swear at wine, I set up a Windows XP VM in VirtualBox. It works very well that way, but...

    [ubuntu] Re: Linux illiterate.

(Let me start by saying I hope this doesn't start a flame war.)

For a newbie, I'd suggest going with the 32 bit version of Ubuntu. My rationale for that recommendation is because getting some...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing Ubunti on a Dell poweredge 700

If the CD works on another system but doesn't work on that system, running the CD check might still help. It could be the CD drive on the system itself that's a problem.

    Run the test on that...

[ubuntu] Re: How to enable scroll wheel?

I know this is going to sound dumb, but you are restarting X between updates to xorg.conf, right?

If you don't, it won't update.

Open up your volume control and make sure that alsa doesn't have it muted by default.

  13. [ubuntu] Re: I broke my Ubuntu Installation somehow. Please help!!!

Wouldn't it save this guy a lot of time if he booted with a live CD, mounted his HD, navigated to the affected folder, and just restored permissions?

My /usr/lib looks like it's all owned by...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Nautilus doesn't open files in Kate/Kwrite (and other weird stuff)

I THINK that what you're looking for is /usr/share/applications. That folder is where the links to the items on your menu, as well as some other things, go. I'd check to see if there are multiple...

[ubuntu] Re: New install and hard drive

I'd be surprised if it was. I'm almost positive that the problem is your CD.

My desktop at home does not burn CD's properly for some reason, but my laptop burns them fine. Desktop is a DVD...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with Remote Desktop protocol as well as VNC

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with Remote Desktop protocol as well as VNC

It's amusing how many of us have had that idea and executed it.

If that's all you want to do, set up apache and a web cam app to view the webcam, and then ssh into the command line and use...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with Remote Desktop protocol as well as VNC

In my infrequent use of it, it's surprisingly fast. I wouldn't be watching videos over it, but I did try that to see how badly it'd fail. There's no 30 frames per second response from it, but when I...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with Remote Desktop protocol as well as VNC

Okay - there's a command that may work here, and it may not. It's called ping. The idea is that a packet is sent out and the remote machine replies to it. (Think of every movie you've ever watched...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with Remote Desktop protocol as well as VNC

I'd be very cautious about using VNC in a corporate environment as it may violate your corporate security policy. VNC is a clear-text protocol, and using it could potentially allow some hacker in the...

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

  22. Re: Linux Vs. Mac: Which Is The Better Alternative To Microsoft Windows?

To me the decision comes down to this: I'm cheap!

While I understand and agree what open source is all about, it's not completely the reason that I use Linux. I use Linux because it's free and it...
