I've got a similar problem. Do you have any ideas how to make Finch notify me about a new message via network? I mean, when Finch is running remotely with screen.

Thanks for the tip ! I've had an error err:wininet:NETCON_secure_connect SSL_connect failed: 12157 and downgrade / register with Wine 1.0.1 / upgrade did the trick.

In the meantime I've managed to solve the problem exactly the same way - by adding restart command to rc.local.
