  1. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

Maybe exercise caution with upgrading to 19.04.

On the original computer that had the problem with 18.04, I have got around to upgrading it to 19.04.

That changed things from bad to worse. On...
  2. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

Are you in a position to upgrade to 19.04 ?

    Re: djmount dropped - alternative?

WebDAV itself or any given implementation? I see quite a few obvious attempts to exploit WebDAV implementation problems come in to my existing internet facing web server - so yes the hackers are out...

    Re: djmount dropped - alternative?

An alternative approach to the original problem as posed (expose DLNA-served content as a file system) is to put in a DLNA to WebDAV converter to a web server and then use the WebDAV backend for...

    [SOLVED] Re: More nVidia woes

I think I have it working now but there are a few traps for young players.

    1. Kernel 4.18 seems to recommend and autoinstall the wrong version (340 rather than 390, and 340 simply doesn't work if...

    [SOLVED] Re: More nVidia woes

That's the fallback position if I can't get it working. nVidia (drivers) seems to be a problem around release upgrades or major kernel version upgrades. Between those times it hasn't given me too...

    [SOLVED] Re: More nVidia woes

I don't think "GeForce GT 560M" exists. Don't know whether it is misidentified by lspci or in some other way. All other evidence says that it's a GeForce GTX 560M.

    [SOLVED] Re: More nVidia woes

I admit that that is one version that I have not tried.

Here's the problem ... that installed 340 (which is what I had before I just purged it) and 340 fails to build with kernel 5.0

    So do...

    [SOLVED] More nVidia woes

OK, so I had Ubuntu 18.04 LTS working well (kernel 4.18.0-25) with nvidia drivers 340.

Then something took it into its head to push out kernel 5.0.0-21 (unclear why, it wasn't me i.e. it wasn't...

    Re: djmount dropped - alternative?

Thanks for the ideas. It looks as if cmus may be able to do the job. It does require access to the underlying files (i.e. not reflecting what the DLNA server is serving) but that should be adequate...

    Re: djmount dropped - alternative?

Correct - but that is precisely what djmount does - it exposes content that is served by a DLNA server as a file system, which is what I want.

I am already using EasyTag to set tags (when they are...

    djmount dropped - alternative?

djmount exists and works fine in 18.04 and while I am not running 18.10 seems still to exist in that release but seems to have been dropped from 19.04 (I've just upgraded from 18.04 to 19.04)

    (So...

  15. Re: Trying 18.04.1 and PS/2 keyboard does not work

Recognising that PS/2 is fairly obsolete these days, I've gone out and bought Plan B - a 2 x PS/2 to USB adapter. Works out of the box at all levels (BIOS, boot menu, GRUB, ...) without drivers etc....
  16. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

I've done that. It works correctly.

I changed three things at once

    19.04 v. 18.04
    different computer

so I can't say what made the difference. It may take a...
  17. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

  18. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

I'm passing on doing that - for the reason that you give.

inxi isn't installed out of the box, which could be a problem when doing a Live Boot.

On the normal boot, I installed inxi and it...
  19. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

  20. Re: after upgrade to 18.04 alert sound does not work as expected

I think that functionality is 19.04 only.? I am suggesting that it might be working in 19.04 so one more needs to test under 18.04.

Where you have 18.04, is that a laptop or a desktop?

    In 18.04...
