WRONG! Not fixed with 18.04. I waited until I was notified that the upgrade was available with the hope that things like this would not be an issue. Wrong again. Love Ubuntu (12 years) but am getting...
OK, then there's something else going on. No amount of un-installing and installing in any order achieves that result on my machine. Not sure I care anymore. I've wasted enough time on this already.
So, here's the deal - apparently. Aisleriot is installed with one gnome based card style and a card style menu choice but no working link to install new card styles. gnome-cards-data does still...
I've tried all that. Solitaire exists in the software center (or whatever it's called now) but gnome-cards does not. It does exist in Synaptic. If I install solitaire from either the software center...
No, there is no option anywhere to change or download card styles. No menu item and they apparently don't exist in the new Ubuntu Software, Synaptic, or by command line either. Not in the new...
Yes, no menu item for card styles.
Yes I did. This is the result.
gnome-cards-data is already the newest version (1:3.18.2-1ubuntu1).

The title says it all. It appears that no card themes are now available for the game. There is no menu item for new card-themes and no amount of searching finds any. Anyone know anything about this?
OK, found the solution. Installation had to be done with NOMODESET because of changes made by Ubuntu with the boot video driver. My Nvidia video card didn't like it basically. So solution is to wait...
Well, I'm kind of talking to myself but I think I may have found the solution. I believe I'm going to have to install with NOMODESET. I think the Nvidia driver is causing my problem. I set NONMODESET...
I just discovered that the live CD of 16.04 crashes after a few minutes just like happens during my installation attempts. I lose video and the system crashes. Interesting for sure. I'm wondering if...

Hi all, long time user here - 10+ years! Tried to do a fresh install of 16.04. Have been running 14.04 without issue. I never upgrade, always do fresh installs and I only run LTS. Anyway, I've tried...
I am sick to death of screwing with Ubuntu and Samba. I have a media server that is inaccessible half the time. I'm tired of this crap. After 8 years with Ubuntu I'm ready to throw in the towel.
At least for me, this is not true. Even at 640 X 480 the audio is terribly laggy.
Thanks - I did miss that. Because of the weak video performance of my old laptop I likely will stay with 10.04.4.
I'm still confused as to why I have no upgrade (to 12.04) option on my laptop running 10.04.4 LTS.
Thanks for your reply. I've decided to do a fresh install on my desktop 11.04 system. It is the best choice. The laptop, however, is another matter. Because of it's integrated and weak graphics...
It looks like it's not possible to upgrade from 11.04 to 12.04. I have my upgrade settings to LTS versions only and I get no notification to upgrade to 12.04.
I have a laptop that's running...

Ubuntu should absolutely STOP ADVISING AND ENABLING updates. The update tool is a complete mess.
Only a FRESH INSTALL has any chance of working anymore. An update is a crap shoot that fails...
Thanks to both of you. I'll give it a shot. I've tried to talk the user into a dual boot (she still uses Windows too) to no avail. Perhaps this experience will win her over to my thinking.
There may be some language issues involved here but I am a long time Ubuntu and linux user. One particular machine that I've administered has a wubi install. Unfortunately nothing your have said...
