The only hardware requirement for KVM is that CPU must support hardware virtualization. Which I think Atoms don't.
And as much RAM you need for running virtualized machines. KVM itself doesn't use...
My 2003 servers are idling somewhere around 8% (3Ghz 4core i7 Xeon). One of the problems looks to be swapping which can't be omitted. The other is as I remember from old posts real time interrupts.

I have raid 10 array of 4 disks which is used for data. Computer is booted from other disk.

This is by far the cheapest 8-port > 10Gb switch you can buy....
You got to have a lot of money. What kind of bussines are you doing at home that you need that kind of bandwidth.
Shortly. I haven't seen a lot of 10base-T switches (none really) but most of 10G...
Looks like I am one of those late to the party ;-)
I had the same problem and I switched from virtio to Intel adapter. So far (4 months) it works.

You are on your own from here on. Learn more about technology and try to understand it. You know all the parts, just connect them together right.
Good luck

You need to restart client machine of course. It doesn't make any logic to restart server machine in order to test client ;-)

Sorry I am late to the party. I usually follow forum once a week.
There are some things that I might forget to explicitly mention.
First is that ruby program file should have execute attribute...

Somo hipervisors have also storage migration option. KVM not at this time.
But it is on a roadmap. Other requirments are correct and migration mostly works. Based on Ubuntu 10.04.

There is no Ubuntu hipervisor. Ubuntu uses KVM as hipervisor and it works just fine with virtual windows hosts.
UI might not be polished as other hypervisors, but if you don't have to control...
I can confirm that iSCSI with LVM is probably closes to bar metal as it can get.
I ran 4 300GB Raptors in RAID 10 and get 150MB/s running hdtach in Windows server running on KVM server. Network...
I did't do any tweaking perticulary. I get 200+MB/s on hdtach test running on windows server inside KVM with disks connected to iSCSI server. Disks are 4 raptors in RAID 10, 10Gb Ethernet, Ubuntu...
These is pretty hard stuff. I can only replay for KVM.
Live storage migration (i.e. - moving a running disk from Shared Storage A to Shared Storage B)
I think I read somewhere that this is...
I've got same problems with 10.04 with LVM and iScsi devices. Some thing are starting in wrong order.
I gave up the system way and write everything I needed to /etc/rc.local.

Your old system is probably booting from raid1 array.
I don't think it is possible to boot from mdadm raid5 configuration.
