So I've fixed the issue.
I went to system settings>sound>hardware>internal audio and picked analog stereo duplex.
Although I never changed these settings to cause this problem, I'm sure one...

Although I never changed these settings to cause this problem, I'm sure one...
The only updates I do are through update manager, but other than that I haven't done anything else crazy to it.
All around media issue
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 on my Lenovo ideapad y560p.
