Hello RickB68 ! It sounds like your "Timeout " in /boot/grub/menu.lst
is set to zero , don't know what the default is but it can be easily changed by issuing the following command in a terminal...

If you meant the uuid ; try this
ls -lf /dev/disk/by-uuid Hope you figure it out and post back .
