    agreed, if it's still giving you fits, you will have to change ownership of the directories/files involved. chown is change owernship

    no, drivers are contained in the kernel. the kernel is loaded into ram. and yes, if you pop a livecd in it should boot into it (might have to change bios settings though) like he said, wireless might...

    i agree with kanikilu, try out the live cds, if everything runs run with them, go ahead and install. i would suggest ubuntu and fedora for first timers.
