    See page 10: http://www.urbackup.org/ServerAdminGuide-v1.4.pdf

TL&DR: for local area backups, data is in the clear. for internet backups, transmitted data is encrypted.

    One of the things I...

Re: How to do backups to Ubuntu Server?

I did a lot of research on backing up my Windows machines when I built my Ubuntu home server and settled on UrBackup. I've been very pleased with it.

Re: Securly stream music to iphone?

If you're talking about streaming your own music to your phone, I can recommend madsonic (http://www.madsonic.org/) which is a free fork of subsonic. Any subsonic iphone app should work fine with it...
  4. Re: Web pages/applications I should run on my home media/NAS server?

You could use OwnCloud. It's got a To-do/task list module that will work.

Thanks! I'll definitely take a look at those. http://www.piwigo.org/ also looks like an interest photo app. Add I just found RDDTool which makes very nice system status plots.
  9. Web pages/applications I should run on my home media/NAS server?

I configured a headless Ubuntu server last week as a home media/NAS/server system and am really enjoying it. Now that I have a web server at my disposal, I'm wondering what else I could be doing with...
  10. Re: Encrypted disk mounting on boot with keyfile on external USB drive?

Thanks - that's not a bad idea. The downside to that approach is that I can't boot the machine at all w/o the usb drive. I'd prefer to allow it to boot all the time and just not mount the data...
  11. Encrypted disk mounting on boot with keyfile on external USB drive?

I'm starting a media server/NAS build (http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TD22057/saved/3nEV) and want to use full disk encryption on my data drives (not the system). I'd like to store the keyfiles on an...
  12. Re: Ubuntu as an NAS (Network-attached Storage) ?

I've in a similar situation (returning my WD my cloud this week) and have been doing a lot of research lately (QNap, FreeNAS, Ubuntu, etc). I've settled on an Ubuntu server w/ SnapRAID and other...
