Hi
In the next few weeks I will be upgrading my 16.04 system to 18.04 and getting a new SSD drive to use for the root partition (home and data will remain on the drives where they are). Are...
When you say you reinstalled lightDM - did you purge the package before installing it or "just" reinstalled it.
I ask because on my upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 I had a similar issue and I had...
I prefer system monitor, may be I'm not using top properly but I am deliberately running more than one instance of conky, and I'm not seeing more than one instance at a time. I can see that which is...
I'd say look for a second instance of conky running, because it looks like you have overlapping text.

Hi the variables you need are
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_argb_value 0

Have a look at adding the command to /etc/rc.local, this should run the command as root at start up.
You'll probably want to read up a bit on rc.local to make sure it is suitable, but that is...
Thank you for the help.

HI all
Can I check a few points. I'm about to upgrade my hardware to an i5 processor with 8GB of Ram and change to a 64bit operating system. I will be sticking with 12.04 unless there is a...
Can you get the internal speaker to beep at all?
Rather than using
printf "\a" I use a program beep on the command line to access the internal speaker.
Also I forget when ubuntu started to do...
Hi
I am about to do a clean install (probably of 12.04.01) after a few years of upgrading. I know I have modified various configuration file e.g. /etc/fstab, I've got some udev rules, rc.local...
The grep -A x means that grep will output the 1st x lines after the match. Rather than just the line the match is on, so in your case with x=1 it isn't necessary.

There are several slightly different conky variables to run an external command.
These are
exec
which executes a shell command each time conky updates according to the update_interval...
Ok you are getting:
is because of the line
in particular the part "${pre_exec dpkg --status nvidia-current" As you don't have nvidia-current installed you are getting the message when you...
It works after 3 minutes?
Are you using an execi or execpi command with the time set to ~180s. If so you may be being affected by a known bug in conky 1.8 the version in the main repositories. ...
Hi I like the systray and after whitelisting all using dconf editor I have a problem, initially the icons are clickable and above the panel, but at some point they disappear underneath the panel and...
That isn't looking terribly useful. I know you have said that the script runs normally from a terminal. Are you specifying the shell the script should use?
I have got a script working for a similar purpose working fine with conky with "execpi". Have you running conky from a terminal? I've had luck with that approach in the past.
A thought based on my experience, have you tried different browsers? I've tended to find that Firefox tends to play much nicer with hotel networks than Chrome.

HI I did come across this behaviour a few weeks ago. From what I recall it was a simple fix although I can't remember precisely what it was.
I think I it was one of:
1) updating the cache by...
OK by editing
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades
to uncomment the lines:
"${distro_id} ${distro_codename}-updates";
"${distro_id} ${distro_codename}-proposed";
allowed me to solve...
The launcher (and dash application lens) get the data from the .desktop file, so you will need to change the command in that. These files generally live in
/usr/share/applications although some...
bump..
I have 2 issues with update manager:
1) How do I get update manager to download ALL updates automatically when it is run at 5am (while I have free bandwidth) rather than just the security updates?...
Thank you all for spotting my mistake, I've now edited my original reply.
