Atheros wi-fi AR9285 not working in 11.10 on HP 635 Notebook.
On Ubuntu 11.04 works fine, so I just install kernel from Ubuntu 11.04 natty release:
$ sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
add this...
rmev from gpm package can read mouse events under xterm

For switch between virtual consoles into guest Linux works following: Alt + HOST KEY + F1...F7
badblocks -w /dev/sdX
do something similar, but it not detects error on my broken USB flash drive.
Also may try
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX and
badblocks -p 7 -s -v -w -t random /dev/sdX
...
