  1. [ubuntu] Upgrading from 18.04, package management troubles

So I decided to finally get off my a— and upgrade my work machine [to 20.04], seeing as I'm currently between projects.

First try, the updater would close right after clicking the upgrade button....

  3. proper way to run a script on switch to battery/AC in Ubuntu 20.04?

Subject pretty much says it all, I'd like to run a custom script when the machine switches to battery / to AC, what's the cleanest ("most Ubuntu") way to do this?

    Obviously I want something...
  4. [ubuntu] update manager doesn't show progress window, it's as if the UI doesn't update

This one is so weird I've no idea how to describe it, let alone what to search for ...
It happens on both of my 20.04 systems, an antique netbook and a Surface Go 2, both using Wayland session on...

[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX32VD

You need an UEFI partition. That's a small (couple hundred MB) FAT32 partition at the start of a GPT-partitioned disk with the "boot" flag set. It's shared between all OS' on the system. ASUS'...

[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX32VD

Just put the line "blacklist rts5139" somewhere in /etc/modprobe.d/, it doesn't really matter which file as long as the name ends in .conf. I created a new "blacklist-cardreader.conf" for the...

[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX32VD

Only two things that aren't in the Wiki:
    1. bbswitch doesn't work 100%
Manually turning off the nVidia card (echo OFF | sudo tee /proc/acpi/bbswitch) works but loading the module with Load_state=0...

[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX32VD

I've got the battery tamed now, it seems: nearly 8h in idle and it looks like I might actually get 5h under a medium workload. The funny thing is, it isn't consistent. Sometimes power drain pretty...

[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX32VD

Interesting that the power usage should be all over the board. What I did to get to 8,5W:
    - kernel cmd line: pcie_aspm=force nmi_watchdog=0
    - BT off in BIOS (I don't use it)
    - nVidia card switched...

[ubuntu] Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX32VD

An UEFI-install of 12.10 beta 2 worked like a charm on my UX32VD (BIOS 2.11), but there's still a number of annoying problems remaining:

    1) The trackpad doesn't work at all well. It's much too...
