Based on the information you gave, you were able to select a specific drive (or partition?) to launch grub instead of getting an NTLDR error. So I figure it'll help if you make that device boot...
It's not much of a suggestion but maybe you can set the order of boot devices in your bios. Then it will start up with grub automatically.
Does this command actually change the mouse wheel scroll speed? I don't notice a difference in scroll speed when I use "xset m 3 4" or "xset 1/2 4". The man page says that it affects mouse...
