    Re: Ram upgrade issue

Try removing the battery and leaving it out for 10 minutes while ALL other cables are disconnected. Reinstall and see if that helps.
  2. Re: Question about laptop battery charge data

I have had laptop batteries in excess of 10 years old that still worked great. And, I have had ones not make it to their first birthday. Also, if you buy a battery, be vary wary of off name units:...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: synaptic package manager & hplip in ubuntu 20.04

So, not a 5.8 kernel issue since it was still running 5.4. What I did today was to disconnect the printer USB cable, deleted the printer, completely removed HP-LIP. Rebooted. Plugged USB cable...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: synaptic package manager & hplip in ubuntu 20.04

I am thinking that this may be another issue with the 5.8 kernel since I have a relative's machine doing the same thing. I tried everything a couple days ago, but nothing really worked, If I...

[xubuntu] Re: Lost sound and internet suddenly

I am so sorry for making you type all of that. I should have told you that I have Xubuntu on a separate SSD from Win10. I choose which SSD to boot from when I power the machine on or restart it by...

[xubuntu] Re: Lost sound and internet suddenly

Either way, I guess. It is just a pain to have to choose a kernel every time. I do switch to Win10 a few times a day for a game. Switching back to Xubuntu becomes a real pain then. I suppose that...

Re: Today's update broke the GUI

Xubuntu is similar but not quite the same. Anyway, I already have the equivalent (I think) as you do. I just need to block the 5.8 kernels and figure out how to get rid of the last 5.8 kernal so...

Re: Today's update broke the GUI

"Load bleeding edge kernel"....are you being funny or is that actually an option in Ubuntu? There is no such option in Xubuntu.

[xubuntu] Re: Lost sound and internet suddenly

How do I pick what kernel to upgrade to? I tried updating earlier and only had the 58.0-36 as the newest.

And how do I keep it right now from booting into 5.8.0-36 until then?

[xubuntu] Re: Lost sound and internet suddenly

Just tried that.....no good. Next boot it went to 5.8.0-36. I just now had to boot into 5.4.0-60 to get sound and internet back.

[xubuntu] Lost sound and internet suddenly

I was on Facebook with no problems. Left there and went to play SuperTuxCarts and it wouldn't load: just kept going back to desktop. I rebooted and STK loaded just fine, but no sound. Going into...
  17. Re: USB 3.0 device only works in 3.1 Gen 2 port?

It is hard to say for sure. I have a particular drive here that will not run on one particular USB 3.0 port. The real kicker is that it will work on the one right next to it which is wired...

[ubuntu] Re: system became unusable after update

I would start by making an .iso boot disk and trying that. If you can boot from that, then something obviously is wrong with you install.
  19. Re: Trying to go from 16.4 32 bit to 20.04 64 bit, no boot from usb

Both of the ones that I had were 32 bit.

Can you give us the model of your laptop please? In the interim, you may just want to try and reinstall.
