You did manage to install it
  4. [SOLVED] Re: improve ubuntu high definition playback to the level of vlc in win xp

You should try and use vdpau where possible, either directly with mplayer, or using va-api->vdpau wrapper: https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/catalysthacks

Yeah, mobo manufacturers tend to take shortcuts like that. SPCR is a good site for finding out what boards support PWM control on the fan headers.

    [other] Re: Motherboard RAID recommendation

If you want real hardware RAID, get a RAID card. If you don't want to spend that money, then use software RAID, which is good in Linux.

If you still insist on using mobo RAID, get something with...

[SOLVED] Re: Xorg, Display Resolution? Monitor not Found?

I suspect you need to increase the range of horizsync in that example (30-82 is common). Even without the intel driver, you should still be able to get 1024x768 with the fbdev or vesa driver.

[ubuntu] Re: How are your temperatures when using Ubuntu?

That's great if your BIOS has good fan control, but the fancontrol script allows more control than most BIOS fan controllers. Also, laptops tend to use ACPI for fan control, and there are lots of...

[ubuntu] Re: How are your temperatures when using Ubuntu?

Linux can use more power than Windows, especially with recent kernels. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=linux_2638_aspm&num=1

Yeah, but I thought sun-java6 was still in the partner repo in 11.04 and earlier. I think Ubuntu and other distros are now declaring openjdk and/or icedtea as "good enough" for users that aren't java...

I thought you were talking about gnome-fallback (GNOME 3 with old-school panels), but I see you're referring to GNOME Shell. My apologies.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Nvidia Proprietary drivers do not work after fixing ugly text only bootscreen.

Are you having issues? If not, then don't worry about it. It's an annoying (but benign) bug that it shows as not in use when it really is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jockey/+bug/771788

    Re: Sound Stops Working

If the sound device keeps disappearing from aplay, the problem runs deeper than pulseaudio.

It would be interesting to see any dmesg output when your sound stops working.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: what steps/new graphic card for non-working RAdeon 9200SE

9802 is not the model number for your chip; it's the PCI device ID. Your GPU is actually a RadeonHD 6310. If it shows as a 9802 with lspci, then you probably need to update your PCI ID list:

    sudo...

  25. [ubuntu] Re: what steps/new graphic card for non-working RAdeon 9200SE

Try booting without KMS (add radeon.modeset=0 to the boot line).
