  1. [gnome] Re: [How-To] Move Nautilus 3+ Back & Forward Buttons to the Left of the Location Bar

What you're looking for is creating a diff file with the diff tool and apply it in a script with the patch tool.

Edit: And giowck ninja'd me. But I have links, so I'll leave this post here.

[all variants] Re: swap fn and control key

That doesn't help inverting the "fn" and "control" keys :(
  3. [ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] Re: Problems with iSight webcam on 10.04 Lucid (MBP 5,3)

I assume you need to put the extracted firmware at /lib/firmware/isight.fw. I did that and then followed your instructions, rebooted, but no webcam.
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Powertop Shows Excessive Wakeups from and

@GeorgeOfTheBush: If you really want to, someone on the bug report posted a link to his PPA:
    https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/power
which includes the kernel with the fix applied. I...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with iSight webcam on 10.04 Lucid (MBP 5,3)

I have not been able to fix it. The article you linked to is the same "solution" as one of those mentioned previously: extracting the video firmware from OS X's files, which worked for previous...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Problems with iSight webcam on 10.04 Lucid (MBP 5,3)

I have exactly the same problem (and same dmesg output) on Kubuntu 10.04 64-bit on Macbook Pro 5.3. I have tried paulinchen's suggestion without success; ift-extract moves isight.fw to /lib/firmware...

[ubuntu] Re: GRUB 10.04 MacBook /dev/sd3 (NEED HELP!!)

This has always been a "bug" on Macbook (Pro)'s, you can't let the installer do the default action of installing GRUB/GRUB2 to /dev/sda because it ruins the GPT part of the disk and you end up with a...

[ubuntu] Re: GRUB 10.04 MacBook /dev/sd3 (NEED HELP!!)

I have wiped my whole disk, reinstalled OS X and rEFIt, and reinstalled Kubuntu 10.04 without problems (with Grub on the Linux partition, /dev/sda3 in my case). For people who want a reasonably quick...

[ubuntu] Re: GRUB 10.04 MacBook /dev/sd3 (NEED HELP!!)

I have exactly the same problem. I wouldn't date try to install GRUB on /dev/sda. That's a recipe for even further computer suicide.
  10. [all variants] Re: No sound on MPB 5,3 with kernels 2.6.31-17 and 2.6.31-18

The backport module did work for me on .19 (but not any other)
  11. [kubuntu] Re: How to put shortcuts of other drive folders?

That is because your other partitions are not mounted automatically after a reboot. You need to edit /etc/fstab so that your partitions are always mounted when your computer starts, that way they'll...
  12. Re: MacBookPro5,5 random loss of brightness control

    Sadly that changed nothing. ](*,)
  13. Re: MacBookPro5,5 random loss of brightness control

Well good for you I guess... Could you remove the solved tag and change the title to Macbook Pro 5-3? That'd prevent me from creating another thread for that... I'm kind of fed up with all the...
  14. Re: MacBookPro5,5 random loss of brightness control

I downgraded to version 0.15 by downloading it straight off Launchpad and installed with sudo dpkg -i path/to/downloaded/package.deb
Shutdown and turned on again, and this time the screen was...
  15. Re: MacBookPro5,5 random loss of brightness control

I have exactly the same problem with a Macbook Pro 5-3 since the recent nvidia-bl-dkms update (version 0.15.1). I'll try to downgrade and report the results soon (if I figure out how to do that...)

It'd be nice if it was ported to Kubuntu too... :D
  17. [all variants] Re: No sound on MPB 5,3 with kernels 2.6.31-17 and 2.6.31-18

As said in the first post, alsamixer reports only one sound channel rather than the usual half-dozen that there are on the other kernels. I've set that channel to 100%, without effect.
  18. [all variants] Re: No sound on MPB 5,3 with kernels 2.6.31-17 and 2.6.31-18

Apparently the wiki was updated between my post and your reply. Only the compilation instructions were there before.
So I tried installing the linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic package and...
  19. [all variants] No sound on MPB 5,3 with kernels 2.6.31-17 (fixed) and 2.6.31-18 (not fixed)

Hi, I've been using the instructions on the Wiki to compile audio drivers for the Macbook Pro 5,3, and it has worked for a while. But I tried doing the same thing with kernels 2.6.31-17 and...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and Windows ONLY on new Macbook Pro?

It should. I haven't tried it myself, but it should be possible by doing it the way you described.
However, I still recommend going the triple-boot way, despite the hassles of such a method. This is...
  21. [kubuntu] Re: Kubuntu 9.10 freezes whenever downloading

I happen to be the friend mentioned in the above post, and would like to add that it's indeed a hard freeze, not just an interface freeze; can't switch TTY's with Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6, can't move mouse,...

  23. [SOLVED] Re: Can play audio from video files, but no video

Okay, guess I'll just abandon that PPA then. Marking as solved.

For the record, I re-enabled the GetDeb PPA and isntalled VLC 1.0.4 from there and it indeed works without XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1....
  24. [SOLVED] Re: Can play audio from video files, but no video

Alright, the thing is that the libraries seem to be coming from multiple PPAs. VLC was from GetDeb's PPA, libavutil and libx264 were from https://launchpad.net/~thefirstm/+archive/karmic-testing...
  25. [SOLVED] Re: Can play audio from video files, but no video

Thanks, good progress. I downloaded divx502.avi from there and launched ffplay with it and it worked, the sound and the video worked.
Now here's the output with VLC -vv (It did ask if it should...
