Hi, folks,
I'm not hands-on with the computer in question, so I've been passing the suggestions on to my colleague who is new to all of this. The last one caused him to say "*&^%$#@! Put my...
Hi, folks,
I admit that I'm a little confused. I don't understand how, if there's a problem with a PS2 mouse, the mouse is totally fine when booting from a flash drive.

I'm attempting to help a colleague get started with linux. He's getting a little tired of paying for the privilege of being a prisoner in a walled garden. He has a spare older W7 machine and we're...
I haven't found a solution to this issue...windows that open on seemingly random workspaces instead of the one I'm on, and that reopen on seemingly random workspaces after restarting. Any ideas?
I.
Also, after shutting down and restarting, my windows come up willy-nilly, in this workspace or that, certainly not the way I left them.
I.
"Activate focus stealing prevention" is unchecked, "Honor standard ICCCM focus hint" is checked, and the "Bring window on current workspace" radio button is pushed.
No, I don't.
Maybe this has already been answered, but I haven't been able to find it.
I'm using Xubuntu 14.04.2 which is, for the most part, really very nice. I like to use multiple workspaces (one monitor)....
I'm far from an expert, but I was having a similar problem, crashing...or should I say the screen locking up, and the display going funny...it turns out that changing the video driver to one for the...
One last bit,
I see now that clicking the "3rd party software" button while installing doesn't grab and install the needed video driver. But it's easy to get afterward via Settings > Software &...
I think I've got it. As far as the crashing I've been experiencing.
As I've been installing over and over, while installing, I've been leaving unchecked the two boxes about updates and 3rd party...
OK, I'm writing from a new install of 64 bit xubuntu 14.04 onto my external hard drive. The first four times I started this up, it locked up soon after starting, the same way the Live USB was...
Hi, Bashing-om, oldfred, and anyone tuning in,
My Live USB ran for several days of fairly heavy use before crashing. I had to try three or four times again to get a stable (not locking up within...

I just grabbed a "fresh" download of Xubuntu 14.04, desktop, 64 bit, and made a Live USB flash drive out of it, using the newish flash drive (not used for OS installs before yesterday) I used the...
Bashing-om,
Is your 14.04 32-bit or 64-bit?
I.
Yikes is right, Bash. All very mysterious. I might try again, going straight to 14.04. But not tonight. I suppose if I'm forced to stick with 12.04, it's not the end of the world.
I'm like you,...
Four crashes in a row. The last time, I was able to get to the desktop, but when I tried to run Firefox, the cursor froze, then the screen went screwy. No success with 14.04. At least it boots up,...
14.04 keeps crashing on me. It locks up and/or goes screwy during or shortly after starting up. Three times now. The other versions, as I upgraded and restarted each one, did not do this.
I now have Xubuntu running from my external hard drive. To get here, I started over, doing things differently. I did not try to fix anything. Here's what I did:
I disconnected my internal C:...
