Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

All of these were pulled from here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/PowerManagement/PowerSavingTweaks

The i915 options are related to the intel embedded video hardware, as is the drm.vblankoffdelay...

For reference, here's the other options I'm running:

    Re: Resume network after suspension

Are you running in bios or efi? Suspend doesn't seem to work for me, it resumes to an entirely black (but backlit) screen, and will not respond to keyboard input.

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

For those of you that aren't sure if you've installed / are running Ubuntu in EFI mode: check to see that /sys/firmware/efi exists. In BIOS mode it doesn't exist.

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

Huh. I wonder how much of this stems from the discrete gpu vs integrated. Just tried this and it fixed my speakers, but I'm assuming it doesn't work on your end because of the hardware discrepancy.

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

Hm... I haven't tried to do minidisplayport => vga. I've only attempted to do minidisplayport => minidisplayport / thunderbolt. In my case, it just works when you plug it in. Can you elaborate on...

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

I'm currently looking into sound as well. My current suspicion is that the speakers are default muted (as evidenced by looking at alsamixer), but I haven't figure out quite yet if that's necessarily...

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

AFAIK (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the Mac iso is forced to boot in BIOS mode, since earlier versions of mac hardware will not boot a hybrid EFI / BIOS image. Since the end goal is to get Ubuntu...

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

    Here's what I did:

    1. Downloaded 13.10 NON-MAC iso.
    2. Put it onto flash drive via unetbootin.
    3. Boot up with option held at startup, and select the usb drive.
    4. Upon installer bootup, went...

Re: [ubuntu] Macbook Pro 11,1 (2013 Haswell Retina)

Not an OSX person, so I can't speak to what the "normal" battery life in Mavericks is supposed to be. Based on my own experiences, after I added in a bunch of the kernel level powersaving options...
