I'd take Lubuntu, it is running fine :) I have got 512 mb RAm as well, :) It is idling on about 150 MB RAM and is on about 250 MB RAM when I use firefox and skype etc.

I don't have a problem with the printer showing up-- but atm I have a problem with the printer starting pages and then it stops and seems to be stuck after only about 1/6 of the page is printed.

There is an abundance of different good apps on Ubuntu. My favourite is mtPaint graphic editor as it does resizing and cutting quite well and comfortable if that is what you are looking for ....

I don't know the age of your Screen, but there may be the option that your screen is simply failing . Have you tried a different screen on your computer?

Lubuntu doesnt require a lot of ram :). I think you can even get an extra small version of it too at the download sites.
