I had the same problem, was rebuilding the degraded RAID 1 almost on every reboot. Dangriffin's solution seems it will help here. Thanks a lot.

I have the same problem but with Samsung's official drivers, and I got it working temporarily removing the USB 2.0 (EHCI) module to make scan working.
To do this, type into a terminal: "sudo rmmod...
