    I do a lot of digital image work and this new version works wonders.

    I would advise that you uninstall gimp and gimp data for a lot less trouble..

    sudo apt-get purge Gimp* in...

    Just installed it on my Kubuntu 12.04 computer. Far better than the 2.6.12 version.
