Re: Ubuntu Forum Users - Personal Blogs/ Webs

    This is my blog ...

    http://customisinglife.wordpress.com

Started as an anything goes blog, but I'm starting to lean towards blogging about what I do with Xubuntu.

    Re: Cracking Closed source code

    Indeed.

But even SAMBA have come out and said that they only wish to see Microsoft code, so they can make GNU/Linux interoperative. They don't actually want to use it. They want to use their own...

    Re: Cedega CVS?

CVS Cedega is what used to be known as WineX, does not have code such as copy protection and texture compression.

The Cedega Timedemo is a fully-featured version of Cedega, it's all there. The...

    Re: what does Cedega run

The processor can be 64bit, that's not a problem, it's the OS that's the key.

Do you run the 32bit or 64bit version of Ubuntu? Running wine will only be an issue if you use the 64bit version of...

    Re: Cedega CVS?

CVS Cedega doesn't contain any of the 'goodies' that the paid version does, like DirectX support, the MS fonts (I think).

I could be way wrong, but from what I've read on the Trangaming forums, is...

    Re: what does Cedega run

You might have better success with Wine, which is kinda Cedega without the DirectX. Plus it's free in every sense of the word, and easy to install.

You can browse their Application Database to...

    Re: Global: Forum will be....

I know this is splitting hairs, but to me if a time zone is said to be before GMT, then it is GMT + n hours.

I am GMT+10 in Sydney, meaning 7:00pm on the 10th of June occurs 10 hours before 7:00pm...

Re: scilab and octave help required

To quit a man page, use the 'q' button.
Octave uses very similar commands to MATLAB. When I was at Uni, we used to use MATLAB in engineering, and Octave on UNIX machines in maths. I found them to...
  12. Re: Technically restricting non-free software in ubuntu

I think the poster is referring to non-free software, not illegal software. In which case, the default Ubuntu installation does not contain any non-free software.

  17. Re: Create your own udev rules to control removable devices

Ok that's great. Makes sense to have it there, along with countless others (gdm, powernowd, firestarter, etc)

Thanks for pointing that out! I shall edit the original post and include that if I...
  18. Re: Create your own udev rules to control removable devices

You don't need autofs. If you are using the gnome-volume-manager (default Ubuntu/GNOME installation = yes), it should handle the automounting.

All udev does is set the device node for the...
  19. Re: Create your own udev rules to control removable devices

The version of udev in Dapper doesn't seem to have or use udevstart. I ended up re-booting to affect the changes when I tried this in Dapper.

I'm sure there must be another way though.

    Re: device drvier compile problem

The Ubuntu kernel was compiled with the GNU C Compiler v3.4 (gcc-3.4) not gcc-4.0, which it seems you have installed.

    First install the older compiler

    sudo apt-get install gcc-3.4
    Then use...
