    Probably have to reinstall. Compiz does depend on Unity, so make sure to reinstall.

    I know there happens to be a patch for that. You could also switch to Ubuntu 3D view. happens to be my favorite and most used view.

    You might have to get a burned disc. Since many of the Linux distro's are compact, you might have to be careful what your doing. It could end detrimental.
