  1. Re: Installing 22.04 without dual layer DVD or USB

Thanks! I might try this approach. What would be the problem with Lubuntu initializing? The only reason I ask is that I'm not sure I can connect to the Wi-Fi with just the terminal...
  2. Re: Installing 22.04 without dual layer DVD or USB

Thanks, but the specs on this machine were quite high in its day. It has 8GB RAM, which is still double the recommendation for regular Ubuntu.
  3. Installing 22.04 without dual layer DVD or USB

I remember the days when the install CD for Ubuntu actually fit on a CD. After Unity and whatnot, I wanted to move to something lighter, so I moved on over to Peppermint. Now I'm looking to move off...

    Re: Anyone use DVDstyler?

Actually, I believe it's an overflow condition on the number of titles (clips) in a titleset. In this case, I've been very careful in the project at hand not to exceed 99 per titleset.

    Re: Anyone use DVDstyler?

I think I found the main problem. In the propertis of the "Play All" button on the main menu, "Single Titleset" was selected, instead of "All Titlesets". now, when generating the .iso, I get a parse...

    Anyone use DVDstyler?

So I've been using DVDStyler for years to put our family videos onto an annual DVDs. I wouldn't say it was a slick experience in the past, but this year, I'm finding myself beating my head against...

[ubuntu] Re: Unable to Try Before Installing

Concerning 4 partitions: the number of partitions you can have depends not on the operating system, but on the partitioning scheme. If you're using the older MBR/BIOS scheme, than you can't have...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: how to get Ubuntu to use current user's password when installing software?

I think NoWayWin8 is onto what you want. If you want another user to have administrative privileges, you have to make their account an administrator account.

    If you're using regular Ubuntu,...

[ubuntu] Re: WiFi stopped working after upgrade

First observation: 14.10 is not LTS. In fact, it should be hitting EOL about now, which means you need to upgrade to a newer release (or roll back to 14.04, which is LTS and won't hit EOL until...

[lubuntu] Re: New to linux and i want to do linuxy things

Most Linux users use Linux to do things they already wanted/needed to get done. That could be work, surfing the web, listening to music, creating music, etc. ad nauseam.

    There are others, though,...
  11. [SOLVED] Re: Want to understand Ubuntu upgrade consequences for apps

If I remember from my very short trial of Arch, it uses pacman instead of apt.
  12. [SOLVED] Re: Want to understand Ubuntu upgrade consequences for apps

+1 nerdtron. If the kernel you have installed from xx.04.0 works great on your hardware, what's the point in upgrading the hardware enablement stack?

Re: What am I getting my self into?

Kubuntu is one way to go. It's also trivial to add KDE or any of its necessary components to a regular Ubuntu install. They can easily be found in the software center. (If you're going that route,...

    Re: Pixeled youtube videos.

I don't believe chromium uses the same pepper flash player as chrome by default, so I'd say trying chrome would be a good idea. Downloading the .deb from google's website and installing it with...

    Re: Pixeled youtube videos.

I don't see a reason your hardware should be an issue. Have you tried the same videos on a different system, to make sure that's not just the nature of the videos you're watching?

Re: Can I install ubuntu in my PC?

Lubuntu is the lightest officially supported member of the Ubuntu family. From the website

Looks like the CPU the OP listed should be fine for Lubuntu. The RAM, however might be a little...
  17. Re: Computer slow, responds slowly to mouse clicks

That is an interesting question. Is a dedicated mail client lighter than a webmail interface in a browser? I don't know or have numbers available.

However, it does strike me that there are...
  18. Re: Computer slow, responds slowly to mouse clicks

I was under the impression that iceweasel was basically a re-brand of firefox (which is trademarked), so it wouldn't really be lighter than firefox.

Thunderbird was suggested for email. Sylpheed...

[ubuntu] Re: Grub entry to terminal

Yes, I've seen those. But I don't want to make all my grub entries go to TTY. I want a new entry that leads to TTY. I want my old entries to remain in tact, leading to the GUI.

    For that matter,...

    [ubuntu] Grub entry to terminal

Is there a way to create a GRUB entry that leads directly to a terminal, bypassing xorg? I know recovery console takes you to a root terminal. I just want to go to a regular terminal.
  24. Re: Which LTS version would you use in an SMB? 14.04 or 14.04.2?

I'm a little surprised and confused. The machine I'm on had Trusty installed before 14.04.1 was released. Since then, I've never been asked about upgrading to a newer point release. Yet, when I...

[ubuntu] Re: Installing Ubuntu Over Corrupt Vista

I apologize if I added to the confusion.

As for the error messages in post #22, it looks like they all stem from a failure to resolve archive.ubuntu.com, which makes me think it's a DNS server...
