  1. Re: Unable to enlarge / and /var using gparted live cd

This is one of those times when using LVM would make resizing much easier. I don't know about newer installs, but with 16.04, if LVM is selected during install, MBR partitioning with an extended +...
  2. Re: Can't ssh into a server after a power outage and a "broken pipe" error

1st, you must know 3 things:

the IP address for the remote device
the username that is allowed ssh access
    the password for that username

After you know the IP, you can check some initial...

    Re: help with command

What do you mean by "domain?" If you mean some sort of LDAP thing, then there isn't any command to verify that someone else knows how to login or not besides actually logging in.

    You can get a...
  4. Re: Ubuntu 18.04 and system error at every login

Those packages are for use by KVM virtual machines and spice (replacement for RDP/VNC/NX) is only possible under KVM to my knowledge. virtualbox doesn't use either. I have no idea how they would be...
  5. Re: New PC build, Graphics card not recognized

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-amdgpu-unified-navi-linux says it works with 18.04.2. Please confirm you are running that with lsb_release -a
  6. Re: Is there an app to organize your Ubuntu apps by category?

Many DEs and WMs allow you to create any menu system you want, manually.
  7. Re: Antivirus and Antimalware for Linux/Ubuntu?

    I've been hacked 3 times.

1st time (1994-ish), when I was really new, but running with known root passwords outside a firewall, on the internet. This was long before firewalls were common. The...
  8. Re: Location to store custom production scripts

If the scripts contain sensitive information, I use /root/bin/
If the scripts are purely for admin reasons, /usr/local/sbin/
If the scripts are for anyone on the system, /usr/local/bin/
    My...
  9. Re: virt-v2v version too low on 18.04 to p2v 18.04

I just remove proprietary GPU drivers, then use my normal backup/restore processes to move machines around. Works every time.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Compare many files between Ubuntu servers

I'd get a list of different files first using rsync in dry-run mode.
Depending on the types of files (binary, text, something else), I'd use a different tool. Might use a VCS if the files are text.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Need app to backup phone data to computer - also view data with computer

I use adb, but Samsung used to include a backup tool.

Google data like contacts and calendar stuff can be downloaded through their website. If you use the same gmail ID, it will be imported...
  12. Re: Can't ssh into a server after a power outage and a "broken pipe" error

My APU2 doesn't run Linux. Also, I think the settings are in the APU2 documentation, so check that. It has been a few years since I needed it. Getting the settings in minicom right and it "just...
  13. Re: New PC build, Graphics card not recognized

If you are running 18.04, then there shouldn't be any issue with intel, AMD or nvidia GPUs that are still supported. If the card is old, then usually the F/LOSS drivers get used.

    I don't know...
  14. Re: New PC build, Graphics card not recognized

Is this running inside a virtual machine?

For a physical machine install, I assume you checked the 'Additional Drivers' tab on the Software & Updates application?
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Installing Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.04 on UEFI the Right Way

There is no single "right way" to install Linux/Ubuntu. How I install to a desktop, is different then how I install to a laptop, is different then how I install to servers.

    Portable devices like...

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Mount and recover files from non-bootable Windows SSD

I'm backing up about 15-20 systems, so what I do might not be good for a 1-computer setup. I'm fairly skilled, so some of my methods wouldn't be useful to someone without at least intermediate Unix...

Re: gufw won't work on my PC :-(

    Open a terminal.
    run
    sudo -H gufw
Does it work? Always remember the -H option, otherwise, it can be bad.
If not, what are the errors show?
In the meantime, you can use ufw or iptables.

[SOLVED] Re: /home won't mount in fresh install

    I don't know what

  25. [SOLVED] Re: graphic card not recognized on UBUNTU 18.04.3 LTS

Any information in /sys and /proc are virtual file systems created by the kernel based on what it discovers at boot.
