    Just to say, I tried a new install and this time instead of accepting the default cache directory at first time of opening I created a new folder.

    It now opens! Horray!

    Has anyone found that 14.10 solves the problem? After trying several of the solutions mentioned on other threads I gave up went back to 13.10. It's not ideal but at least I'm connected.

    I have just realised that when I log in as guest, network manager displays as it always did and as it should.
