Re: qemu windows 10 blue screen

People seem to want to do things the hard way. I never understand that.

First, verify that your CPU and BIOS are setup to support KVM. There's a program - kvm-ok

    $ kvm-ok
    INFO: /dev/kvm...

[ubuntu] Re: Can I close the lid while upgrading?

Doing any patching while on battery is asking for problems. Why tempt fate? In no way would I attempt an OS migration on battery.
  4. [lubuntu] Re: Dell Mini 10V Lubuntu 18.04.03 Post install

The Atom N270 CPU is the issue with only 270 passmarks. The "270" result is just a coincidence. I had an Asus Eee with that CPU in 2010. It was fine for minimal work loads that didn't need any GPU....
  5. Re: Looking for a laptop thats probable not easy to find

About a year ago, saw some Core i7 16G 14 inch Dell laptops for under $300 on eBay. But not all Core i7 processors are created equal. Be certain that that CPU performance you want is clearly...

    Re: Company Linux Requirements

All infrastructure can easily be Linux. Make a list of what you consider infrastructure. start with authentication/authorization and backups. I'd have at least 3 different subnets to start. Think...
  7. Re: Launcher for .jar program and associate files?

.jar files are Java archives. Most require extra environment variables, so I wouldn't assuming that just calling java whatever.jar would actually accomplish what you want. But it wouldn't hurt to...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: No http connection to wifi router possible while wifi operational

The wired connection is going to 192.168.2.2/24.
The wireless connection is going to 192.168.1.68/24.
The routing tables show the wired wifi connection is controlling the gateway.

    Run

    sudo...

    Re: Company Linux Requirements

I have never seen this. Management is looking for the best deal and sometimes using F/LOSS to get a huge price drop when they don't ever actually intend to move away from MSFT is a strategy deployed....
  10. [SOLVED] Re: Upgrading 19.04 to 19.10 python3 install corrupted

Is the 19.04 system fully, completely, patched without any package errors? That is step 1.
Step 2 is to have 100% know-you-can-restore backups BEFORE beginning. Sometimes bad things happen.

[ubuntu] Re: HDMI port not detected

Connect the DP-1 cable to the external monitor.
    Run lxrandr.
Enable the 2nd interface, resolution, refresh rate.

    Profit!
  12. [ubuntu] Re: SCP speed is going down and CPU usage high with 18.04.3 LTS

Sorry, I can't help with testing Windows issues, no system to test with. Perhaps someone else can.

There are a large number of complaints about winscp being slow over the years. ...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: SCP speed is going down and CPU usage high with 18.04.3 LTS

WinSCP? Is Windows somehow involved here?
  14. [ubuntu] Re: SCP speed is going down and CPU usage high with 18.04.3 LTS

Have you tried rsync? I use rsync almost exclusively to copy files.
    Have you tried sftp?
Have you tried using a different cipher for which a J4105 would have hardware encryption support?

    Re: Company Linux Requirements

    1:
    It depends.
It depends on the sorts of programs that each group of desktop users actually use.
It depends on how the company works with external clients/organizations.
    It depends on how much...

[xubuntu] Re: access denied by Kubuntu nfs server

Excellent point. This is part of the reason why we ask to see the FULL COMMAND and output in the same copy/paste block. Being obtuse makes trivial answers hard to provide.

[xubuntu] Re: access denied by Kubuntu nfs server

I've never heard of "TC wrappers". Be careful reading old articles, especially when you don't know what you are doing. If you don't know, stick with articles specific to the exact Ubuntu release...

[xubuntu] Re: access denied by Kubuntu nfs server

What do the log files show on the client and the server?

I would disable tcp-wrappers first to see if that is actually the issue.

Also, using file sharing for backups isn't a great idea with...
  20. [SOLVED] Re: I've been advised to "upgrade" from Ubuntu 18.10 to 18.04.3 LTS

18.04 is the current LTS. Even years, April is when LTS releases happen. All other releases are non-LTS and have 6-9 months of patching. 19.04 support ends in 2 months, so if you move 18.10...

Re: Highest monitor resolution not available

The EDID info is missing. That's what tells xorg and xrandr which resolutions are possible. Without correct EDID, you'll need to get correct EDID from somewhere and tell the nvidia driver to use it....
  23. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu server installation and existing partition

Before you do anything, please make backups of anything that cannot be lost. From here, we cannot tell what any of those partitions holds except the swap.

    Backups are needed anyways.

Re: Issue with 2nd hard drive on read only

Well, usually when a partition's file system (not a drive), goes read-only, it is because of corruption and the file system is protecting itself against more issues.
The corruption can be logical or...
