Well, the laptop is really old and messed up so i can't say that i'm surprised. Bummer...
I'll boot up a live USB to recover the data, there's not much on it, but still.
Is there...
Hello!
I recently installed Ubuntu on a laptop, and everything was fine until recently when i normally shut down the computer and after booting it up again i got this:

Well, it works now, although, i'm not sure secure boot is off...
I found online that i should run:
sudo mokutil --disable-validation
So i did that, it prompted me for a password and upon...
I see! I'll go do that, i'll google how to disable it. This will i'm sure require a restart so i'll post again when it's done.
Hopefully that solves it!
Hmm, i get:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
i did what it said and then i get this:

Do i uninstall the other drivers i got first?

Hey! Thanks for responding!
Well dpkg for bcmwl-kernel-source is
Status: deinstall ok config-files
But that's because i first tried that - and that was installed by default.

Hello!
I'm fixing my mother's laptop that had a Windows 8 on it.
It was beyond repair so i wiped the whole disk and installed Ubuntu 20.04 on it.
it has efi, /boot, swap, /, and /home...
Ok, i restarted, and changed 1000 to 999 in both instances, and it worked! I just created a new folder on /dev/sdb5!!!
Thank you so much! You just saved the rest of my data! :D
I will mark this...
I know but i don't have one at the moment. I have a small USB where i backed up the most critical of files, and if i can't fix this today, i'll just have to live withot the rest.
I have to get this...
Yeah, ntfs to ntfs... :( If i had another drive that is not ntfs i could just copy from ntfs, that works without any issues i think, but alas, i do not.
You were right, the source is sda2 and teh...
I see. That makes sense. I was not aware of fast boot and how it affects things in linux!
The last time i needed this was in windows 7, and then after a few commands i could write on NTFS. Did not...
But my only option using windows is formatting the disk and losing my data. I tried all the recovery options and none of them worked...
Also, how is moving files from one disk to another a windows...
I am extremely new to ubuntu. I have used it several time throughout the years, but never mastered it so please someone help a newbie out.
If possible some step by step guide so i can follow it. I...
Thank you for your input.
I'll install a persistent live USB on it again then if it doesn't write that much. I imagine it doesn't since it's way faster than installing it directly...
Yes, i...
So i made a live USB for a friend with Ubuntu on it because he deosn't have his own computer but uses a company computer where he can't install or use anything except the programs they installed...
Yeah, that would be great if they could see the desktop at all. The monitor went to sleep immediately after X was loaded apparently... There were some screen flickers here and there before but then...
So basically, i need to get the computer back to my monitor and set the resolution manually then? :/
And you're right, it's probably the X11 display server... I totally forgot about that.
Idk,...
Why is this still an issue?
I'm not trying to be and a-hole, i genuinely want to know. Windows did this since 95, and yet ubuntu doesn't change it automatically when plugging in a lower resolution...
I'm sorry for the late reply...
It was me, i was mistaking a volume for another, and thought the transfer partition didn't get created.
It did. I just didn't see it, so, yeah, brainfart... :P
