    [SOLVED] Re: Change password

Both excellent ideas. It turns out a simple sudo in front of the passwd command will suffice, but changing the password to something totally different and then changing it back never even occurred...

    [SOLVED] Change password

I'm trying to change my password, but the passwd command says my old password is too similar to the new one and won't let me.

And that's true: I'm reversing my current password so that it reads...

Re: A Call for a Change in Linux Tactics

That list isn't entirely correct. I checked it once for video drivers. It said Ubuntu supported 3D for my card. It did not.

There needs to be a more comprehensive list. One that is kept up...

Re: Link on Main site for Forums please

The general rule with web design is that the user should never be more than two clicks away from whatever they are searching for. That can be difficult with large sites, but it is doable.

Could be a big conspiracy and all the forum users have passed around private messages telling everyone not to help you....

Re: A Call for a Change in Linux Tactics

What you are describing is a form of populism: power in numbers. Populism is the bane of and threat to any established authority, from the moderators at this forum to world governments.

    It is...

[ubuntu] Printing 1 page at a time

My printer will only print an image from The Gimp if I print one page at a time. If I go to 2 or 20 or 200 it gives me an unspecified error and stops the print job. If I change it back to 1 copy,...

[SOLVED] Re: Kick a dead horse Pulseaudio thread

I see. I've noticed similar issues (like losing sound in Rhythmbox when Firefox is open to a page like yahoo.com that uses Flash). I didn't realize that this was why nobody liked Pulse.

    Thanks...

Re: I'm going back to Windows XP

You do have to put some "wrench-time" in to Ubuntu if you want it to work with all the bells and whistles. As for running perfectly the first time around, well, it did for me. I don't think it's...

[SOLVED] Re: Kick a dead horse Pulseaudio thread

I've always wondered what is so broken about Pulse audio. I mean, I have sound in every application I run, and I use Pulse (I think).

What's the big deal with it?

[kubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] Widget control removal

I'm with you. I couldn't get that widget to install anyway, but now that you mention it, it does sound kind of Windows-ish to me, as well.

[kubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] Widget control removal

Actually, I just installed Kubuntu 8.10 in VirtualBox and updated it to KDE 4.2 I locked the widgets, and the cashew thing in the upper right was still there, the same as in 4.1.

    Maybe I did...

Re: Things that you hate in Ubuntu

I always felt KDE (especially 4.1) is more integrated than Gnome. I mean, in my opinion there's no question which one looks better (KDE), but as far as integration goes...I think KDE has Gnome beat...
