    Re: Beginner Python help

    That's because you're still running it with python 2.x.

    When you have put in the shebang ("#!/usr/bin/python3") and made the file executable ("chmod +x file.py"), you run it like this:

  3. Re: use GTK button to break out of for loop in program when pressed

    You could connect the button to a function that sets a variable to something, and check the value for that variable in the for loop and break if it's some value. I'm not sure if this is gonna work.

    Re: Changing a value on terminal screen

    It becomes much more complex very fast when doing that, but this would do it:

    from sys import stdout
    import time

    i = 1
    while i < 4:
    stdout.write("\r%s/100 %s" % (i,i) + "%")

    On my system it's 8.

    I think that's up to the system to decide, not sure though. 8 is very common.

    Maybe this'll do it

    Re: Pygtk Reszing Widgets Help

    You'd put the box in a HBox and then in a VBox, or the other way around, and when you pack it into the box you set expand and fill to false, then you use the set_size_request button method.

    Re: obfuscating python3 programs

    The simplest answer is that you can't.

    If the programs are simple and the students aren't supposed to know how it works, why not create them in another language and obfuscate that?

    Re: Is lisp a good first language?

    From what I've heard, lisp is great as a starting language.

    I only know a little lisp though, I started out with Python.

    My best tips is to do what you think is fun.
